FANTASY TIP: Prado instantly gains fantasy value and will be a popular AL-only crossover FAAB piece. O'Brien is a fine power prospect who's in the midst of a breakout year in the minors. Watch for him in the next season or two to arrive in the majors, depending on Miguel Montero's future.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith has fixed his turnover problems so far this offseason, according to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

FANTASY TIP: It's one thing to lessen turnovers in the offseason, it's completely different making sure that carries over into the regular season. Smith is still a backup fantasy quarterback and should be drafted as such.

Mariners | Acquire Austin Jackson

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 13:09:36 -0700

The Seattle Mariners acquired OF Austin Jackson from the Detroit Tigers, as part of a three-way deal involving SP David Price and SP Drew Smyly.. The Mariners are sending SS Nick Franklin to the Tampa Bay Rays in the deal.

FANTASY TIP: Jackson's fantasy stock takes a bit of a hit, but he has been scorching hot in July. Hopefully, the relocation won't interfere with his recent surge. Rajai Davis will take over the center field job in Detroit, which increases his fantasy value significantly. The already crowded Mariners outfield adds another body. James Jones' playing time and fantasy value will take the biggest hit.

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 12:45:27 -0700

The New York Yankees acquired SS Stephen Drew from the Boston Red Sox Thursday, July 31, in exchange for 2B Kelly Johnson.

FANTASY TIP: Drew is an interesting acquisition. He can spell Derek Jeter down the stretch and could presumably play some second base with Brian Roberts tiring in the second half. His playing time will likely be frustrating for owners, however. Drew is primarily an AL-only asset at this point.

Tigers | Acquire David Price

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 12:44:59 -0700

The Detroit Tigers have acquired SP David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays for SP Drew Smyly, as part of a three-way deal involving the Seattle Mariners.

FANTASY TIP: Price's relocation to one of baseball's top offensive teams is an upgrade to his fantasy stock. The opposite applies to Smyly, although the Rays have been on a tear lately. Smyly remains a low-end pitcher in mixed formats.
