Fri, 01 Aug 2014 01:49:31 -0700

Although the Kansas City Royals were kicking the tires on some players at the trade deadline, general manager Dayton Moore believed internal production would drive the team in the stretch run so the Royals held off.

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 01:45:25 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles were hesitant to deal any of their top arms to the Boston Red Sox with SP Hunter Harvey (elbow) out with a season-ending elbow injury. That was a factor in why the team did not land Oakland Athletics SP Jon Lester.

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 23:03:57 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles (Achilles') is trying to take things one day at a time after two days of training camp following a torn Achilles' tendon in 2013, saying he feels "pretty good right now." Broyles missed time in 2011 and 2012 with torn anterior cruciate ligaments in both knees, and he understands how to prepare for a season while rehabbing a major injury. Broyles has a new speed coach and is working on becoming more explosive, while not putting too much stress on his knees.

FANTASY TIP: Broyles is best left for your league's waiver wire.

Bears | Ego Ferguson struggling with discipline

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 22:55:25 -0700

Chicago Bears rookie DT Ego Ferguson jumped offsides twice in the same repetition Wednesday, July 30, in one-on-one drills. He jumped at a hard count and then again after being allowed to reset, which may illustrate the adjustment he is going through in his first NFL training camp.

Bears | Danny McCray likely to make the team

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 22:49:45 -0700

Bears | Danny McCray worked with starters

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 22:47:21 -0700

Chicago Bears SS Danny McCray worked with the first-string defense Wednesday, July 30, ahead of rookie SS Brock Vereen. Bears head coach Marc Trestman warned not to read into the situation, saying he wanted to see how McCray, a special teams standout, would fit in with the starters. "In terms of covering and in terms of the run game, his effort level has been very high," Trestman said. "He's a highly intelligent player. He has played consistently and continued to ascend over the last few days."

Cowboys | Cole Beasley turning heads

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 22:24:43 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley may not come off the field when Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is moved around. Beasley primarily works out of the slot, but Bryant sometimes will move into the slot to take advantage of a mismatch. Bryant went as far as calling Beasley a "rare talent" and praised the third-year receiver's ability to get open and make plays. Beasley has worked to improve his blocking skills, an area of his game he noted needs to get better. Beasley is stronger, which will help him beat press coverage, according to Dallas head coach Jason Garrett.

FANTASY TIP: Beasley is a sleeper candidate to target in the late rounds of PPR drafts. He may be the fourth target some weeks, but Dallas' likely putrid defense could mean even more passing than usual from this wide receiver-friendly system.

Blue Jays | Colby Rasmus benched for being late

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 20:58:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus was benched Thursday, July 31, after showing up late to the ballpark. "I was late getting here to the field," Rasmus said. "Wasn't here when I was supposed to be and they punished me as they should have."

Reds | Aroldis Chapman aggravates hamstring

Thu, 31 Jul 2014 20:45:29 -0700

Cincinnati Reds CL Aroldis Chapman (hamstring) needed a visit from the trainer after throwing a pitch Thursday, July 31. Chapman threw a couple of warmup pitches but eventually closed out the game. He said after the game that he should be available Friday.

FANTASY TIP: The fact that Chapman finished out the game is an encouraging sign, but his availability is still worth checking on for the next day or so. He is one of the most dominant closers in the game so it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Reds give him a day or two off.
