Angels | No innings limit on Garrett Richards

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 06:55:15 -0700

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have no plans to shut down SP Garrett Richards after a specific innings limit. "Not at all," Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said Monday. "Garrett has thrown from end to end in a season. His innings have not escalated to the point where they're 200-plus, but Garrett throws the ball as easily as anybody you'll ever see. It's not a violent delivery, it's not a violent package. He maintains velocity pretty easily."

FANTASY TIP: This is good news for his owners as he remains a valuable starter for the rest of the season.

Indians | Jason Kipnis likely to be limited rest of season

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 06:53:29 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis (oblique) is likely to be limited by an oblique injury for the rest of the season. Kipnis has adjusted his swing to adhere to the right oblique strain he suffered in April. "I'd use the word adjustment," Kipnis said. "As far as the oblique goes, it's going to be there all year. It's not going to go away until the offseason. What I can do is find a swing that works for me. I thought we may have found something coming out of Detroit. It was a step in the right direction and we're going to keep making adjustments day to day and pitch to pitch and see how it goes."

FANTASY TIP: Kipnis isn't hitting for much power and likely isn't going to the rest of the season. However, he was 5-for-15 with two homers and six RBIs in the recent series with Detroit. He's still worth owning in all formats, but he may be a player you sit during cold spells.

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 05:37:01 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander looked at some pictures from earlier in his career and from this season to see if he was changing the grip on the baseball before his start Monday, July 21. He noticed a difference in his arm action and immediately made an adjustment while warming up. He allowed three runs and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks. "It felt like I was able to throw the way I want," Verlander said. "Really, (today was) the first time all year that I've been able to locate my fastball as well as I would like to."

FANTASY TIP: This could be good news moving forward.

Phillies | Cliff Lee's return spoiled

Mon, 21 Jul 2014 20:53:20 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cliff Lee (elbow) allowed six runs and 12 hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss Monday, July 21, against the San Francisco Giants. He had been 5-0 with a 0.88 ERA in six career games against the Giants previous to Monday's outing. If he show's he is healthy and pitches effectively, he is a prime candidate for a trade before the July 31 non-waiver deadline.

FANTASY TIP: A move to a contender could rejuvenate Lee and his fantasy value, but he needs to stay healthy and pitch well first.

Indians | Francisco Lindor promoted to Triple-A

Mon, 21 Jul 2014 20:51:44 -0700

The Cleveland Indians promoted SS Francisco Lindor from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus Monday, July 21. "You never expect to go somewhere else. You work for it," Lindor said.

FANTASY TIP: Lindor is one of the top prospects in baseball, and he could end up being a September call-up when rosters expand. He is a must-have in all long-term keeper fantasy leagues, and those in non-keeper AL-only formats might want to stash him away for later in the season.
