The Washington Nationals reassigned SP A.J. Cole to minor-league camp and optioned P Felipe Rivero to Class AA Harrisburg.
FANTASY TIP: Cole is an attractive long-term keeper prospect who's on most top-100 prospect lists; there's an outside chance he could have a cup of coffee in Washington this season. Rivero, a former Tampa Bay Rays asset, has displayed solid peripherals but hasn't pitched above Class A advanced.

Atlanta Braves SP Ervin Santana will log a bullpen session and live batting practice before suiting up for his first spring start. This puts him in line to join the big-league rotation in mid-April.
FANTASY TIP: His late start to camp dictates this course, but it's no reason to shy away from him as a late-rounds mixed SP.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (ankle) was seen with wrapping around his ankle. He said it was a slight strain and that he'll take the day off Wednesday, March 12, and maybe a few more afterward.
FANTASY TIP: It's presumably the same ankle he rolled Tuesday that caused his removal from spring action. This looks like just a small ding; he should be back sometime in the next week.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels (shoulder) threw a 20-minute bullpen session Wednesday, March 12. Pitching coach Bob McClure told reporters it went well and that Hamels was "free and easy. I'm excited." Hamels said he felt good and is back on schedule. It's still early in his process to getting back to big-league action, though.
FANTASY TIP: It's a positive step that could mean Hamels pitches in regulation action sometime in April. If his ADP is dropping in drafts, you could land him at a fine value, especially if he's your second mixed SP. He's not out of the woods yet, but he's seeing fewer trees in his way.

The Houston Astros released 1B Brett Wallace.
FANTASY TIP: The former first-round pick just hasn't hit enough at the big-league level yet. He's still only 27 and could latch on to a team where a platoon role may allow his left-handed stick to be useful this season. Keep an eye on where he lands and his progress as the season goes on.

Milwaukee Brewers RP Wei-Chung Wang is firmly in the battle for a spot on the Opening Day bullpen. Manager Ron Roenicke said Wang is throwing strikes, which is helping his cause. Through five innings, Wang has given up four hits and an unearned run while striking out four, posting a 0.80 WHIP and holding hitters to a .211 average.
FANTASY TIP: Wang can dial it up to the mid-90s and could be a fine NL-only LIMA addition if he breaks camp.

The Atlanta Braves agreed with free-agent SP Ervin Santana (Royals) on a one-year deal worth around $14 million.
FANTASY TIP: This is a great landing spot for the workhorse Santana, whose switch to the National League should help his numbers and net him a bigger deal next offseason. His fly-ball tendencies shouldn't hurt him as much in Turner Field, and after Kris Medlen (elbow) went down, Santana is a huge boost for the team. Santana makes for a good SP4 in mixed leagues and a decent SP2 in NL-only leagues.
