Giants | Santiago Casilla may need surgery San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla (knee) may be forced to undergo surgery that would keep him out for another four weeks, according to manager Bruce Bochy. The team will make a decision tonight. FANTASY TIP: Jeremy Affeldt has been moved up to primary eighth-inning setup duties with Casilla ailing, and that will likely continue if Casilla is forced to go under the knife. Comment |

Yankees | Mark Teixeira could return next week New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) could be activated from the 60-day disabled list as early as next Thursday, and he's scheduled to play in extended spring games Saturday, May 25, through next Tuesday, and then play two games for Double-A Trenton Wednesday and Thursday. "We took it very conservative for the first month," Teixeira said. "The last two weeks in Tampa have been great. It's been really good." FANTASY TIP: Tex said he feels great and would have been playing weeks ago if it were up to him. But due to the nature of his injury, the team has been extremely cautious, because a setback at this point would probably cause him to miss the entire season. Expect him to return no later than next weekend, which is music to his owners' ears. Begin to make plans to get him back into your lineup. Lyle Overbay, who has been a nice surprise for those riding him in AL leagues, could be cut by the Yanks when Tex returns. Comment |

Yankees | Ivan Nova activated The New York Yankees activated SP Ivan Nova (triceps) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 24, but he will be sent to the bullpen with SP David Phelps locked into the rotation for the time being. SP Vidal Nuno is starting against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, May 25. Nova has struggled in his four starts this year, going 1-1 with a 6.28 ERA. "I'm not a bullpen pitcher. I never have been a bullpen guy. But if that's the role they got for me right now, I gotta do the best that I can do. I'm not thinking like I'm going to be in the bullpen for the rest of the year," Nova said. Phelps is 2-2 with a 3.83 ERA in four starts. FANTASY TIP: Nova's inconsistency and injuries have pushed him back to the bullpen, and unless Phelps falters, he might stay there for a while. It's safe to drop Nova in mixed leagues, and Phelps is worth a look in those same formats. Comment |

Athletics | Josh Reddick expects to join team next weekend Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) is expected to start a rehab assignment with Double-A Stockton Monday, May 27, and with Triple-A Sacramento Tuesday, May 28, and he hopes to rejoin the team during their homestand next weekend. FANTASY TIP: If Reddick gets through a short minor league rehab assignment without any setback, he should return to the starting outfield alignment in Oakland shortly after that. That'll mean even less frequent playing time for Seth Smith and Chris B. Young. Reddick's wrist troubles likely played a part in his slow start this year. If he's healthy, he could turn that around quickly. Consider picking him back up when he returns. Comment |

Rockies | Rafael Betancourt to throw bullpen Colorado Rockies RP Rafael Betancourt (groin) will throw a bullpen Friday, May 24, to determine if he'll be available. FANTASY TIP: If Betancourt isn't available for a save situation tonight, expect Rex Brothers to get another shot at locking down the win. Betancourt's injury was minor, though, so he should be available this weekend, if not tonight. Comment |

Angels | Peter Bourjos begins running Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Peter Bourjos (hamstring) started jogging this week and has been taking early batting practice. FANTASY TIP: J.B. Shuck still has some time to take advantage of his increased playing time for AL-only managers. Bourjos is ramping up his baseball activities and could be nearing a rehab assignment, though. Once Bourjos returns, Shuck will be mostly useless in fantasy leagues. Comment |

Marlins | Nathan Eovaldi to start rehab assignment Miami Marlins SP Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) will begin his rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter Saturday, May 25, and he'll throw between 60 and 70 pitches during the start. FANTASY TIP: You'll likely have to demonstrate patience with Eovaldi, especially pitching in Miami, when he returns to the rotation. Keep him in mind initially in NL leagues, but you can afford to wait on him in deep mixed leagues. Comment |

Jaguars | Justin Blackmon dealing with injury Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon (groin) did not participate in any of the organized team activities this week because of a groin injury. FANTASY TIP: Blackmon's fantasy value has taken a hit because of his four-game suspension but should still be the Jaguars' No. 1 receiver when he returns. Owners should look at Blackmon as a No. 4 receiver entering their drafts and could be an option in the middle or later rounds. Comment |

Nationals | Wilson Ramos slowly recovering Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) continues to receive treatment and work out, but he's likely to need a few extra days past when he's eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list. FANTASY TIP: Ramos' new hamstring injury is more serious than the one he dealt with earlier this year, so expect the Nats to give him as much time as necessary to return at 100 percent. They don't have to rush him back with Kurt Suzuki able to handle the full-time duties in his absence, either. Suzuki is the kind of player that needs consistent playing time to maximize his potential. Comment |

Angels | Billy Buckner to start Saturday Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Billy Buckner will start against the Kansas City Royals Saturday, May 25. FANTASY TIP: This is just a spot start for Buckner, as Tommy Hanson remains on the restricted list for personal reasons. Hanson could return next week, but that's still up in the air. Comment |

Phillies | Chase Utley being cautious Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (oblique) could return from a mild oblique strain when he's eligible to return from the disabled list in two weeks, but Utley is cautious in not rushing himself back. "We really won't know for another week or so, how it's recovering," Utley said. "Obviously I'd like to be back in 15 days. But I don't think it's smart to come back if it's not ready." FANTASY TIP: Utley is widely known as a slow healer, so don't expect him to return in two weeks. Even Utley himself seems resigned to the fact that he won't rush to be ready within that time frame. He knows his body. That means Freddy Galvis will retain two-plus week value in deep mixed leagues. Comment |

Athletics | Josh Reddick taking BP Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) will do half a batting practice session Friday, May 24, and he could do a full one Saturday, May 25, depending on how he feels. The team will decide after that if he's ready for a rehab assignment. Comment |

Rams | Lance Kendricks dealing with injury St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said TE Lance Kendricks (knee) underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will continue his rehab. Kendricks was not able to participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 23. FANTASY TIP: Kendricks lost some of his fantasy value when the team signed Jared Cook this offseason but there is a chance both will be on the field at the same time. Kendricks should be considered as a weak No. 2 tight end this season because Cook likely will be the team's main receiving tight end. Comment |

Titans | Kendall Wright looking for make bigger plays Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright said he wants to make bigger plays on offense this season and believes a full offseason with the team will help him. He averaged only 9.8 yards per catch last season. FANTASY TIP: Wright should be a solid part of the team's passing attack this season. Owners should consider Wright in the middle rounds of their draft because he has the chance to be a No. 3 or 4 fantasy wide receiver depending on how Jake Locker performs. He probably will be an option for the flex spot each week. Comment |

Cubs | Edwin Jackson to remain in rotation Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum doesn't have any intentions of removing SP Edwin Jackson from the starting rotation despite a 1-7 record and a 6.11 ERA this year. "No, we're going to stick with him," Sveum said. "It's a long season. There's still another 20-plus starts here to fix this and get it going." FANTASY TIP: Jackson's four-year deal gives him more rope to stay in the starting rotation, but Sveum effectively challenged Jackson to make some adjustments in order to become more successful. He shouldn't be relied on in shallow leagues and should probably be benched, if not dropped outright, in deep mixed leagues right now. Comment |

Nationals | Anthony Rendon not coming up Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon isn't a candidate to play second base with 2B Danny Espinosa (wrist) hurting. FANTASY TIP: This means that Steve Lombardozzi will continue to play second base as long as Espinosa is sidelined, and that could be a decent chunk of time. It's still entirely possible that Espinosa will require a DL stint, too. Lombardozzi is an exciting bat with enough playing time, so snatch him off the wire in deep mixed leagues if you need middle infield depth. Comment |
