Hot off the Wire - News, Rumors, Injuries and more!
Lions | Corey Williams unlikely to return
Chiefs | Toben Opurum signed
Dolphins | Rupert Bryan signed
The Miami Dolphins have signed undrafted free-agent FB Rupert Bryan (Florida International). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Bryan was an offensive tackle in college but the team plans to use him as a fullback.
Bills | No talks with Brandon Moore
Saints | Isaako Aaitui signs
Titans | C.J. Bailey to work out
NFL | Donte' Stallworth cleared
Free-agent WR Donte' Stallworth (undisclosed) has been cleared of his injuries from a hot air balloon accident, and there should be a market for him.
Broncos | Made offer to Charles Woodson
NFL | Titus Young accused of domestic violence
Free-agent WR Titus Young (Rams) may not come within 100 feet of the mother of his 9-month-old child when he is released from jail. She was granted a temporary restraining order after complaining that Young threatened and harassed her.
Ravens | Have some cap room
Giants | Morgan Newton signs
Raiders | Charles Woodson to visit
NFL | Warrant out for Chad Johnson
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of free-agent WR Chad Johnson (Dolphins) because he violated several terms of his probation, according to the Broward Sherriff's Office. He failed to meet with probation specialists and failed to show proof of enrollment and completion of the "Batterers Intervention Program."
NFL | Randy Moss' future undecided
Free-agent WR Randy Moss (49ers) is still undecided if he will play football this season. There was reportedly interest in Moss a few months ago, although nothing has transpired since. Moss had only 434 yards last season.
FANTASY TIP: Moss is very close to the end of his career, and he might just decide to call it quits if he doesn't have much interest out there. If he does latch on with a team, he probably won't be worth drafting unless you're in an extremely deep league.
Giants | Nothing imminent on Charles Woodson
The New York Giants are not close to signing free-agent CB Charles Woodson (Packers) and no visit has been scheduled. The Giants would need Woodson to be OK with signing a one-year deal for close to the veteran minimum for a deal to be struck.
Giants | Dwight Freeney interested
Free-agent LB Dwight Freeney (Colts) would love a chance to play for the New York Giants, according to his father. The Giants would likely look to sign him to a veteran-minimum deal, and Freeney would seem to fit that former DL Osi Umenyiora occupied. However, the Giants have plenty of other options for the defensive line at this point.
FANTASY TIP: Freeney would be a much better fit with the Giants, but their lack of salary cap space and crowded defensive line cast probably rules them out. Freeney can probably get more money with another team, and he'll likely go with that instead.
NFL | Max Starks considering multiple teams
Chargers | Dwight Freeney takes physical
Chargers | Impressed with Dwight Freeney
The San Diego Chargers were impressed with their visit with free-agent LB Dwight Freeney (Colts), and head coach Mike McCoy would consider altering their defensive scheme to accommodate him. The Chargers use a base 3-4 defense, but Freeney was less effective in that setup with the Indianapolis Colts last season when he moved to outside linebacker. Freeney is a top priority for the Bolts after they lost LB Melvin Ingram (knee) to a season-ending knee injury last week.
FANTASY TIP: Freeney isn't a very good fit at all for another 3-4 defensive scheme, which is why the Bolts are considering changing their defense around to fit him. This probably isn't the best idea, either, but they seem desperate with Ingram out for the year and Manti Te'o in his first season. Freeney probably isn't worth an IDP draft pick if he signs with SD or another 3-4 defensive club.
Giants | Interested in Charles Woodson
The New York Giants are interested in signing free-agent CB Charles Woodson (Packers), according to Woodson's agent, Carl Poston. The Giants would likely sign Woodson to the veteran's minimum if he passes a physical. The Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders are also interested in his services. Woodson could play as a safety for New York, and he could also play corner, if needed.
FANTASY TIP: Woodson has lost a step entering his age-37 season, and he likely won't be an every-down player with his new team. As a result, he doesn't carry much IDP value as a defensive back other than depth.
