Bears | Martz envisions Hester as a dominant slot receiver
| Comment (0) |
Tue, 09 Feb 2010 09:00:21 -0800
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz said during a radio interview that he envisions WR Devin Hester as a dominant slot receiver, a shift that could result in him being removed from the starting lineup. However, Martz could utilize plenty of three-wide receiver sets, which would provide Hester with ample opportunity to start. "Devin Hester in that role could just be stupid good, if that makes sense to you," Martz said. "What we can do with him inside, the matchups we can get with him on third corners, safeties and linebackers would be absolutely remarkable." Martz is cognizant of Hester's role on special teams and the value that he brings to the team as a returner and sees a way for him to excel in all areas. "I think it would be very difficult for him take every snap as a wide receiver and play at a high level on special teams, so we have to look at that," Martz said. "I think the role I have in mind for him would allow him to do both and do it at a high level."

Aaron needs to know how to be versatile either way. I think George will be able to show him and teach him and put him in a position where he can be successful," Arrington said.

NFL | Goodell says player salaries will grow under new labor agreement
| Comment (0) |
Mon, 08 Feb 2010 07:46:46 -0800
The Associated Press reports NFL commissioner Roger Goodell predicts players' salaries will still grow under a new labor agreement, even if their share of revenue is reduced as owners have proposed. Appearing Sunday, Feb. 7, on CBS's "Face the Nation," Goodell said the owners need more money to cover rising costs for international ventures and infrastructure projects such as new stadiums. "You have to invest in these stadiums that we're in today," Goodell said. "You need to find new ways of creating revenue, whether it's international or otherwise. And that takes investment. And we need to make sure that the owners have the capital to be able to do that. And then the pie grows, and everyone benefits." The union has said management wants players to reduce their share to 41 percent of applied revenues from about 59 percent. Goodell counters that of the $3.6 billion in incremental revenues since 2006, players received $2.6 billion. "We want to structure something that really is going to lead us into the next decade in a way that's constructive, so the players benefit, the teams benefit, and most of all, the game," Goodell said.
