Oakland Athletics RP Jim Johnson has been making progress since being bumped from the closer's role. He worked an inning in a tie game, got a lot of groundballs, which was a good indication for his sinkerball. And when he missed the zone, he missed down, which is also seen as a big improvement. However, it's uncertain if and when Johnson will re-gain his closer's role.

San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin (knee) took batting practice for a third straight day Wednesday, April 16. However, he has yet to run due to the bone bruise in his left knee. Manager Bud Black has ruled out the possibility that Quentin will be ready for a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend.
FANTASY TIP: Fantasy owners of Quentin wait and wait and wait. If you've had him before, you should be used to this. Quentin has so much talent, but he also has a propensity for injury which makes fantasy owners pull their hair out. It appears Quentin will not be back in San Diego until at least May now, so be patient.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said RP Jose Valverde remains the team's closer after allowing home runs to three of the last eight batters he's faced. Valverde gave up two home runs with a five-run lead in the ninth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, April 16. His ERA has risen to 6.14.
FANTASY TIP: It's way too soon to start looking for a change at the back end of the Mets' bullpen. Valverde will be prone to the long ball, but he's earned a little more rope to start the season. New York doesn't have a wealth of other options with closing experience, either.

Seattle Mariners SP Blake Beavan (shoulder) landed on the disabled list with right shoulder tendonitis after he was only able to go four innings against the Texas Rangers. He said he has "dead arm" from a knot in his shoulder. "I just had no life on my ball," he said. "It's just frustrating because I had a great opportunity to help these guys and fill the void of other guys being down. Now I'm in the same situation, but hopefully it's something where in the next 10 days we can get out of there and slide back into the action and help us win some ballgames."
