Nationals | Rafael Soriano's job is safe

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:26:58 -0700

Washington Nationals RP Rafael Soriano is the team's closer, according to manager Matt Williams. Williams noted he did not consider leaving P Drew Storen in for the ninth inning Monday, July 28.

FANTASY TIP: Soriano allowed just 17 hits and four earned runs before July. He has surrendered nine earned runs on 10 hits this month. His job is safe, but the Nationals are trying to win a division and loyalty is largely performance based, especially in the ninth inning. Tyler Clippard should be owned in the majority of formats.

49ers | Michael Crabtree looks quicker

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:25:13 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree has more burst and is a step or two quicker, according to QB Colin Kaepernick.

FANTASY TIP: The 49ers receiving corps is a little more crowded than usual with WRs Anquan Boldin and Stevie Johnson also in the mix. Still, Crabtree should be taken as a high-end WR2 in standard leagues.

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:21:37 -0700

Chicago White Sox RP Matt Lindstrom (ankle) and OF Avisail Garcia (shoulder) are getting close to going on rehab assignments.

FANTASY TIP: Lindstrom's return is probably much closer, and he should be stashed if you are looking for save chances at this juncture. Garcia could return for the stretch run in September.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman update

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:20:01 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) visited a doctor Monday, July 28, but the team is not releasing the exam results or giving a timetable for his return.

FANTASY TIP: The expression "No news is good news" likely doesn't apply here. The Nationals and fantasy owners could be without Zimmerman for a lengthy period of time.

Angels | C.J. Wilson to return during road trip

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:17:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (ankle) tossed 5 1/3 innings in his first rehab outing with Double-A Arkansas Monday, July 28, and he is expected to return to the team during the current road trip.

FANTASY TIP: The Halos will likely want Wilson to make another rehab start before he returns to the rotation. If he doesn't have any setbacks, Wilson could return early next week. His return will probably push Hector Santiago back into a relief role.

Astros | George Springer progressing

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:16:40 -0700

Houston Astros OF George Springer (quadriceps) is progressing nicely and is doing baseball activities, according to manager Bo Porter.

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is starting in center field Tuesday, July 29, for the first time since 2012.

Rockies | No Josh Rutledge

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:06:34 -0700

Colorado Rockies Josh Rutledge (cold) is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, July 29, with an upper respiratory infection.

FANTASY TIP: Remove Rutledge from your starting lineups in daily-transaction leagues. A common cold shouldn't sideline him for long, and as long as he is getting everyday at-bats, Rutledge is an excellent middle infield option.

Rays | Ryan Hanigan pushes back return

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 14:05:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Ryan Hanigan (oblique) is still sore Tuesday, July 29, and he will push his rehab back at least a few more days.

Rockies | Justin Moreau in Chicago

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:48:10 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau (neck) is expected to be activated Tuesday, July 29. RP Boone Logan (elbow) is also in Chicago with the team; however, his status has not been disclosed.

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:48:01 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (lat) is back in the starting lineup Tuesday, July 29, but 2B Brian Roberts is sitting.

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:39:26 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (knee) will be pushed back and won't start against the Cleveland Indians this weekend.

Braves | Freddie Freeman slumping

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:34:45 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman has hit .171 (7-for-41), with a .569 OPS and .194 BABIP since the All-Star break.

FANTASY TIP: The BABIP is unsustainably low, but an 18.8 percent line drive rate will hinder any batting average. Test the trade waters to see if there is an impatient Freeman owner in your league. He is an elite bat in a minor funk who is due for a hot stretch.

Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez to make rehab start

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:31:09 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) will throw 60 to 65 pitches for Single-A Aberdeen Tuesday, July 29, and the team will re-evaluate him before deciding his next step.
