Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester is attracting interest from the Baltimore Orioles.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury resting

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:31:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury said he's on a scheduled day off Monday, July 28, and he'll return to the lineup Tuesday, July 29.

Rockies | Troy Tulowitzki unlikely to be dealt

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:22:03 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki is unlikely to be traded, despite several teams calling to express interest.

FANTASY TIP: The groin injury and massive contract aren't helping their cause, at least during the season. Expect more action this winter if he stays put.

Brewers | Nick Delmonico suspended

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:19:47 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 3B Nick Delmonico was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for amphetamines. He was playing for Single-A Brevard County.

Athletics | More on Craig Gentry

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:14:57 -0700

Updating a previous item, Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry (hand) is dealing with a non-displaced fracture of his hand, and he is hoping to start a rehab assignment in two weeks.

Dodgers | Receive cash with Darwin Barney

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:12:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Los Angeles Dodgers received cash considerations along with 2B Darwin Barney from the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later.

Blue Jays | Brandon Morrow to return in September

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:12:08 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Brandon Morrow (finger) is continuing his throwing program in Florida, and manager John Gibbons thinks Morrow can return sometime in September. Morrow may be used as a reliever if the team needs him in that role.

FANTASY TIP: Morrow's return is so far off that he shouldn't be held anywhere besides AL-only leagues. Even if he returns, he may not even be useful in fantasy leagues if he's pitching in relief.

Red Sox | Jon Lester, John Lackey attracting interest

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:10:56 -0700

Boston Red Sox SPs Jon Lester and John Lackey are getting "hit hard" in trade talks from contenders, according to sources.

Paders | Chris Denorfia's suitors

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:10:40 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Chris Denorfia is the subject of trade talks with the Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves, who are interested in adding him to their bench.

FANTASY TIP: Denorfia is likely only valuable in single-universe games and daily-game matchups versus southpaws.

Blue Jays | Brett Lawrie swinging

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:08:37 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (finger) is hitting off a tee and will move to batting practice soon.

FANTASY TIP: Lawrie will need to go on a rehab assignment before he returns to the team.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind not ready to return

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 14:00:05 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1Bs Edwin Encarnacion (quadriceps) and Adam Lind (foot) are unlikely to be back by the team's current road trip, according to manager John Gibbons. Encarnacion is still resting after a minor setback and Lind is taking light batting practice.

FANTASY TIP: You'll have to stay a bit more patient with both players, but once they're back from the disabled list, you'll need to get them both back into your starting lineups immediately.

Mets | Matt Harvey probably limited in 2015

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:57:53 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) probably will be on an innings limit when he returns in 2015. He may only log 150 to 160 frames, which could equal 20 to 22 starts.

FANTASY TIP: He's not going to appear in the majors this year. Most pitchers' first season after Tommy John surgery is a rough go, so if many are pegging Harvey for his peak pre-injury form, it could be a costly draft-day mistake. If he slips far into the middle mixed rounds, his profit potential will obviously go up. His minors performance this year, if he has one, and his form over the winter and spring will be a hot topic of discussion for next year's fantasy drafts.

Phillies | Interest in Marlon Byrd, Antonio Bastardo

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:52:38 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Marlon Byrd and RP Antonio Bastardo are the subject of the club's conversations with a few teams.

FANTASY TIP: Byrd is the more pertinent fantasy option in this case and could suffer or improve depending on any change in location. Still, the power growth he experienced last year has successfully continued in 2014, so the "fluke" card isn't a lock. He could be an expensive FAAB crossover piece if he goes to the American League.

Athletics | Craig Gentry to DL

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:50:46 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry (hand) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, July 28. OF Billy Burns was recalled from Double-A Midland in a corresponding move.

FANTASY TIP: Gentry is dealing with a broken hand, so it could easily be an extended stay on the DL.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira, Jacoby Ellsbury out of lineup

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:49:34 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (lat) and OF Jacoby Ellsbury are not in the lineup Monday, July 28.

FANTASY TIP: Teixeira could very well land on the DL very soon. Prepare for an extended absence from him. Ellsbury is likely just receiving the day off. Make sure both are out of your lineups this evening.

Mets | Won't trade Noah Syndergaard

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:40:28 -0700

New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard isn't likely to be included in any deal the club may make this week.

FANTASY TIP: As David Lennon notes, the Metropolitans could change their minds, but they're not aiming to part with their top pitching prospect. Good news for his NL-only dynasty stock holders.

Padres | Ian Kennedy, Chris Denorfia updates

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:37:14 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy is looking less likely to be traded, but OF Chris Denorfia probably will be dealt.

FANTASY TIP: Kennedy staying put would be good news for his fantasy value and NL-only owners. His current oblique injury may scare teams off. Denorfia leaving would be a positive fantasy development; joining any other offense and entering any other home park would be an upgrade that could extract more deep-mixed utility.

Rockies | Justin Morneau, Boone Logan to rehab

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:27:41 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Justin Morneau (neck) and RP Boone Logan (elbow) are making rehab appearances for Triple-A Colorado Springs Monday, July 28.

FANTASY TIP: Morneau is eligible to return Tuesday but probably will need at least another day or two. Either way, he's primed to be useful in daily-transaction games soon.

Mets | Unlikely to make big deal

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:26:15 -0700

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said it's unlikely his club will make a big trade before the upcoming non-waiver deadline.

FANTASY TIP: Those Troy Tulowitzki pipe dreams, among other scenarios, look unlikely to come true.

Athletics | Billy Burns being recalled

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:24:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns will be recalled by the team. He has 51 stolen bases this year at Double-A Midland.

FANTASY TIP: How much PT Burns will receive is yet to be seen, but his stolen base prowess is enough for him to be owned in all AL-only leagues immediately. Think of him as a poor man's Billy Hamilton. Deep leaguers in need of speed should take a look, too.
