Diamondbacks | J.J. Putz to begin rehab assignment Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.J. Putz (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno Thursday, June 20. FANTASY TIP: Putz will probably need 10-14 days to get back into game shape. He probably won't return to closing duties immediately upon returning, but Heath Bell owners should start to worry. Bell has allowed runs in three straight outings and hasn't recorded a save in nine days. Comment |

49ers | Vernon Davis practiced with WRs San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis practiced exclusively with the wide receivers in the most recent minicamp. FANTASY TIP: This is notable because the team doesn't have a receiver to stretch the field and could use Davis in a number of ways. Their strong offensive line doesn't require him to block a whole lot. He can line up wide, and Anquan Boldin lined up in the slot at camp. An increase in deep balls could really enhance Davis' value. San Diego Padres SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) is likely headed to the disabled list with a strained left hamstring Wednesday, June 19. FANTASY TIP: Cabrera has had a breakout season hitting .305 with an NL-best 31 stolen bases. He can be put on the DL retroactive to June 17, which puts him eligible to return around the first couple of days of July. Hamstrings are tricky, and the team may take this one slowly to avoid him aggravating it. Cabrera's trade value was never higher, and the team could look to cash in on it this year. Comment |

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (neck) threw a bullpen session between games of a doubleheader Tuesday, June 18, and he apparently did not show significant progress in his return from a strained trapezius muscle in his neck. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9. FANTASY TIP: Buchholz is eligible to return from the DL June 25, so fantasy owners will want to keep him reserved heading into the next scoring period. Wait until him to return from the DL and prove his health in one full start without any setbacks before plugging him back into the active lineup. Comment |

Red Sox | Andrew Bailey to remain as closer Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said Tuesday, June 18, that RP Andrew Bailey remains as the team's closer, "but there's work to do." FANTASY TIP: Bailey is skating on thin ice after blowing a one-run lead in the ninth inning, his third blown save of the season. Fantasy owners will want to keep him in the active lineup, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to scoop up Junichi Tazawa just in case. Comment |
