Astros | George Springer takes BP

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 17:17:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, Houston Astros OF George Springer (quadriceps) took batting practice on the field Tuesday, July 29, for the first time since going on the 15-day disabled list July 20. "It's big to be out here and just to get some swings," Springer said. Barring any setbacks, he is expected to increase his activities over the next two days. He is eligible to come off the DL Monday, Aug. 4.

FANTASY TIP: Springer is eligible to return Monday, but that doesn't necessarily mean he will. Generally, it's a good idea to see your fantasy player return and play at least one full game without any setbacks before activating him. In this case, it might be another full week for fantasy owners to use him unless you like to gamble a bit.

I said it last year; Cervy's talented," Girardi said Tuesday, July 29. "It's unfortunate, some of the injuries he's had - broken hand, broken wrist, concussion. But Cervy's player for us and he's played well. He's been thrown into pennant races and everything. We just need to keep him healthy."

FANTASY TIP: With Teixeira back in the lineup Tuesday, and McCann back behind the dish, and the brittle Carlos Beltran serving as DH, Cervelli returned to the bench. He is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues despite his recent success at the plate.
