Seattle Mariners RP Tom Wilhelmsen will receive the start Thursday, July 10.

Rangers | Derek Holland nearing rehab assignment

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 15:28:02 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (knee) will throw live batting practice this weekend and then leave for a rehab assignment after the All-Star break. He is tentatively scheduled to make his first start for Triple-A Round Rock Wednesday, July 27, where he is expected to throw approximately 35 pitches.

FANTASY TIP: Holland could return in the middle of August, in a best case scenario. The Rangers have no reason to rush Holland back, but he could still provide a boost to fantasy owners during their stretch drive. He is worth considering in mixed leagues and should be owned in all AL-only formats.

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 15:27:40 -0700

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 15:18:49 -0700

Atlanta Braves C Evan Gattis (back) is going to remain the team's primary catcher when he returns, and C Christian Bethancourt will return to Triple-A Gwinnett, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Gonzalez said he does not know when Gattis will return from the disabled list.

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 15:18:28 -0700

Padres | Chase Headley back to old grip

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 14:45:12 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley's recent hot steak aligns with him reverting back to his natural grip on the bat. He overlaps the pinky and ring fingers of his top batting hand over the index and middle fingers of his lower hand. Headley suffered a broken bone in his right hand last spring training and had to abandon the grip but has recently returned to it.

FANTASY TIP: Headley's numbers haven't been the same since the 2013 spring training injury. If it is as simple as his batting grip, fantasy owners should be delighted. Headley has brought his batting average up 29 points in a week.

Wed, 09 Jul 2014 14:40:31 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran (face) was scratched from the lineup with a facial contusion Wednesday, July 9. Beltran took a ball off his face after it caromed off a net in an indoor batting cage.

FANTASY TIP: Liriano is the epitome of high-risk, high-reward. He is worth adding in all formats if you're looking for pitching. Worley's value obviously suffers, but with Gerrit Cole also injured, Worley could be worth holding in NL-only leagues.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte is on bereavement leave. In a corresponding move, 3B Matt Hague was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday, July 9.
