D. Orlando Ledbetter, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith said WR Brian Finneran (knee) did not need surgery to repair the knee injury he suffered during the season. Smith said Finneran is resting the injury so he will be ready for the team's minicamp.

Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford and Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen are names that have been linked to the Redskins in the draft.

Bob Grotz, of the Delaware County Times, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb is due a $6.2 million roster bonus in early May, assuming he is still part of the organization. The timing of the bonus isn't a coincidence. The deadline gives the Eagles and McNabb time to take a look at the big picture before making any more commitments.
ProFootballWeekly.com reports it's too early to tell whether Oakland Raiders LB Kirk Morrison, a restricted free agent, will return with the team in 2010, according to head coach Tom Cable. "He's proven that he can (get the job done), and the question is: 'Are you where you want to be with all of these guys?' Not just Kirk," Cable said. "To single anyone out right now, it's probably way, way too early to do that. It's still a matter of seeing where we're at as a team and what's available to us as we try to get better."
Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz said during a radio interview that he envisions WR Devin Hester as a dominant slot receiver, a shift that could result in him being removed from the starting lineup. However, Martz could utilize plenty of three-wide receiver sets, which would provide Hester with ample opportunity to start. "Devin Hester in that role could just be stupid good, if that makes sense to you," Martz said. "What we can do with him inside, the matchups we can get with him on third corners, safeties and linebackers would be absolutely remarkable." Martz is cognizant of Hester's role on special teams and the value that he brings to the team as a returner and sees a way for him to excel in all areas. "I think it would be very difficult for him take every snap as a wide receiver and play at a high level on special teams, so we have to look at that," Martz said. "I think the role I have in mind for him would allow him to do both and do it at a high level."

Jeff Schudel, of the News-Herald, reports the Cleveland Browns already paid free-agent WR Donte' Stallworth (Browns) $10 million in guaranteed money before terminating his contract Monday, Feb. 8. Stallworth's deal with the team was for seven years and $35 million.
Mike Garafolo, of The Star-Ledger, reports New York Giants FS Kenny Phillips (knee) is ahead of schedule in his rehab following knee surgery. Phillips was recently given the green light to start jogging in the pool. However, with training camp five months away, doctors have told him not to rush. He won't run until March 29, exactly six months after the operation. In the meantime, Phillips rides a stationary bike, does leg presses and walks forward and backward on the treadmill.

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers DL Julius Peppers indicated Tuesday, Feb. 9, during a Charlotte radio interview that he is irritated by the team's silence in regards to contract talks. "I'm a man of very few words; I understand very well what silence means," Peppers said. "I do it a lot and I understand that. You being silent to me, I understand exactly what you're trying to say. Because of the lack of communication that they've had with us, if somebody asks me 'Do I want to stay in Carolina and play for the Panthers next year?,' it's like OK, well, how can you say you want to be somewhere if you're not really sure if they want you. Because they're not even talking to you." Peppers said the team has not had any serious discussions with his agent.
Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the New Orleans Saints had planned a surprise onside kick for the past two weeks, but head coach Sean Payton wasn't sure when the best time would be to try it. Payton decided to use it on the second-half kickoff. The Saints were able to recover the kick, and they took advantage of it with their first touchdown of the game.
Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers PK Mason Crosby was scheduled to make $550,000 in 2010, but he reached incentives that boosted his salary to $1.01 million.

Grant earned an escalator of $1.5 million by topping the 1,250-yard rushing mark, raising his pay to $6 million when his salary is combined with roster and workout bonuses.
Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers CB Charles Woodson earned a substantial contract escalator for 2010. Woodson earned an escalator of $1.5 million, raising his 2010 base salary to $6.5 million. He is due a $900,000 roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus, meaning Woodson is scheduled to earn $7.5 million next season.
