Player agent Mike McCartney clarified that six games now constitute one "year" spent on a practice squad instead of three. The league also clarified that teams may sign two practice squad players who have up to two accrued NFL seasons. Previously, players with at least one accrued season were not eligible for practice squads.

Vikings | Jerome Simpson talks about appeal hearing

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 20:25:46 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Jerome Simpson said Tuesday, Aug. 19, that he told the truth when he met with NFL hearings officer Harold Henderson to appeal a three-game suspension stemming from an arrest for DWI last season.

FANTASY TIP: Even if he wins his appeal, Simpson is likely to have minimal fantasy value this year. He is currently behind Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings on the depth chart, and being the third receiver on a team that struggles to throw the ball isn't exactly a recipe for success.

Packers | Davante Adams working to gain trust

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 20:15:11 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams said he is working to gain the trust of QB Aaron Rodgers. "Just making sure that it becomes second nature," Adams said about what he needs to work on most. "Everything out there is just flowing and I don't have to worry about thinking too much and I can just play."

FANTASY TIP: Green Bay's offense is certainly capable of supporting three fantasy-worthy options at receiver, but Adams isn't a lock to overtake Jarrett Boykin for the team's No. 3 receiver job by Week 1. For now, Adams isn't worth drafting, but he is worth keeping an eye on to see how his role progresses during the year.

Saints | Mark Ingram's role evolving

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 19:50:09 -0700

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram has never had a touchdown reception during the regular season, but he took a screen pass for a 23-yard touchdown in the team's preseason game Friday, Aug. 15.

FANTASY TIP: Ingram has looked like a more decisive runner during the preseason, and the fact that he is being used a little in the passing game is encouraging. The Saints rotate their picks too frequently and throw the ball too much to make Ingram more than a RB4 on draft day, but when you do decide to roll the dice on one of New Orleans' running backs, Ingram looks like he has the most upside at this point.

Seahawks | Malcolm Smith returns to practice

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 19:31:34 -0700

Seattle Seahawks LB Malcolm Smith (ankle) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 19, and returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown.

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 19:22:12 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker appears to be in good shape for winning a spot on the 53-man roster after the team traded RB Kenjon Barner to the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday, Aug. 19.

FANTASY TIP: Whittaker has had a strong preseason, particularly in the second game against Kansas City. However, unless DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart go down with a long-term injury, Whittaker's fantasy value is rather limited.

Schaffer (head), QB Tyler Wilson (head) and WR James Wright (shoulder) each were held out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 19.

49ers | Brandon Lloyd fitting in

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 19:13:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Lloyd has developed a bond with WR Anquan Boldin and is in good position to make the final 53-man roster.

FANTASY TIP: Even if Lloyd does make the roster, he isn't worth drafting in fantasy leagues. At best, he would be the fifth option behind Michael Crabtree, Boldin, Vernon Davis and Stevie Johnson.

Eagles | Chip Kelly talks Kenjon Barner trade

Tue, 19 Aug 2014 19:13:09 -0700
