Green Bay Packers OT Marshall Newhouse plans to work hard in the offseason to improve and try to win the starting left tackle position in 2012. "The goal is just to improve and that's what I'm going to be doing this offseason," Newhouse said. "I'm going to use my time wisely and not get caught up in all that other stuff that's out of my control." Newhouse allowed a team-high 10 1/2 sacks in 2011.

Green Bay Packers OT Bryan Bulaga might get a chance to win the starting left tackle job if OT Chad Clifton is not brought back in 2012. "I really don't know what they're thinking about for down the road," Bulaga said. "Right now, I'm a right tackle and I'm just trying to become as good as I can be there." Bulaga was drafted as Clifton's likely successor, but he has been primarily on the right side since former OT Mark Tauscher went down early in 2010.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said Saturday, Feb. 11, that QB Blaine Gabbert reminds him of Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan, the quarterback he coached in Atlanta. "With Matt, it was never good enough. Even when it was good, it wasn't good enough," Mularkey said. "I think (Gabbert) wants to be good. It's important to him."

San Francisco 49ers CB Curtis Holcomb (Achilles') has a good chance to stick with the team regardless of their offseason moves. When he ruptured his Achilles' tendon during a conditioning exercise preceding training camp, he was lost for the season. Still, he stuck around the practice facility all season as he went through rehab, impressing coaches and players along the way. Holcomb also sat in meetings and watched practice as if he were on the 53-man roster.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to pursue a big-play wide receiver in free agency, especially since the class will be particularly deep. There might be dozens of receivers on the open market March 13 such as San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson and Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson, whom current general manager Tom Heckert drafted in 2008 when he was with the Eagles. Super Bowl hero WR Mario Manningham of the New York Giants is a native of Warren, Ohio, and he might be a potential target if he isn't re-signed.
