"I got to the point where I've got one year left, and I want to do everything I can to do the best job I can for Richard Petty Motorsports in my final year, and it's up to them what happens," Kahne said. "They do their thing, and I'll do mine. All I can do is what I can do."

SceneDaily.com reports Wave Energy Drink has agreed to a sponsorship extension with Tommy Baldwin Racing for the 2010 Sprint Cup season. The company will appear as the primary sponsor in 14 select events, beginning with the Daytona 500 in February. They will also be the primary sponsor in the non-points All-Star race in May and an associate sponsor for the remaining 2010 races. Wave Energy Drink will appear as the primary sponsor in the races at Atlanta, Texas, Richmond, Charlotte, Michigan, Watkins Glen, Dover, Kansas, California and Homestead. Financial terms of the sponsorship were not disclosed.

It is his third contract extension since joining the team in 2001. Home improvement chain Lowe's also has signed an extension as the primary sponsor of Johnson's No. 48 Chevrolet through the 2013 season. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

David Newton, of ESPN.com, reports Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon will drive through at least the 2013 season, according to team owner Rick Hendrick. There has been speculation that Gordon will retire within the next few years. "He's committed to at least 2013, maybe 2014," Hendrick said. "I'm hoping he's going to drive a bunch of more years. We know it's going to be at least three or four." Hendrick is also negotiating a new deal with DuPont, the primary sponsor for Gordon's car since 1992.
