San Diego Padres OF Cameron Maybin (biceps) is opting not to have surgery to fix his ruptured left biceps tendon after meeting with doctors Thursday, March 6. Now, he may be able to return in four to six weeks instead of the initial diagnosis of two to three months. OF Will Venable will likely take Maybin's spot in the lineup and in center field.
FANTASY TIP: This is great news unless he suffers a setback and eventually needs surgery, which could end his season. Maybin may wind up only missing part of the first month of the season, which might warrant drafting him late in a very deep league if you have DL spots available to use.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras (ankle) will start in right field in his spring debut Friday, March 7.
FANTASY TIP: This is notable, because a few days ago, there was no timetable for his debut. He still has a ways to go to get caught up, and we still expect him to start in Triple-A. He could come up in June if a spot opens.

Northern Illinois SS Jimmie Ward (foot) will participate in his Pro Day Friday, March 7, then will undergo surgery to repair a small fracture in his foot. He is expected to be fully cleared by late spring. Ward was not allowed to participate during the NFL Scouting Combine because of the injury, even though he did not have any pain.
