Arizona Cardinals impending free-agent RB Rashard Mendenhall said he was tired of living a "private life in the public eye" as his reason for considering retirement at the age of 26 years old. "I just kind of wanted to disappear," Mendenhall wrote. "The fact that I was done playing would've been clear once some time had passed and I hadn't signed back with the Cardinals or any other team. Maybe people would've thought I couldn't get another job. Either way, I was OK with the idea of fading to black, and my legacy becoming, 'Whatever happened to that dude Rashard Mendenhall? He was pretty good for a few years, then he just vanished.'"

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) said his recovery from back surgery is going well, and he's on track to participate in the team's organized activities next month. "It's going good," said Romo. "We're getting close now to (returning). Usually takes three months, it's just normal kinda roundabout date that they give ya and we're right on schedule. Really ahead in a lot of ways. Just going to be ready to go here in about a month and rehab is going good, no setbacks of any kind. Mine (surgery) was just a normal small version of it, so I should be good to go here shortly."
