Wed, 16 Apr 2014 18:32:32 -0700

Padres | Carlos Quentin takes live BP

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 18:31:21 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin (knee) took batting practice for a third straight day Wednesday, April 16. However, he has yet to run due to the bone bruise in his left knee. Manager Bud Black has ruled out the possibility that Quentin will be ready for a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend.

FANTASY TIP: Fantasy owners of Quentin wait and wait and wait. If you've had him before, you should be used to this. Quentin has so much talent, but he also has a propensity for injury which makes fantasy owners pull their hair out. It appears Quentin will not be back in San Diego until at least May now, so be patient.

Padres | Casey Kelly looks good in sim game

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 18:30:34 -0700

San Diego Padres P Casey Kelly (elbow) threw a simulated game in Arizona Wednesday, April 16, and he looked good. He might make one more simulated start before beginning a minor-league rehab assignment.

Padres | Looking at backup options at 3B

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 18:29:56 -0700

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said Wednesday, April 16, that the weakest backup position is third base, where INF Alexi Amarista started in place of the injured 3B Chase Headley (biceps). INF Ryan Jackson (wrist) is unavailable at Triple-A El Paso, so the team might look to 1B-OF Yonder Alonso or C Yasmani Grandal to play some third base if Headley is forced out for an extended period.

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 17:59:38 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig was not in the lineup Wednesday, April 16, against the San Francisco Giants. Manager Don Mattingly said it was not because of the ball Puig did not run out Tuesday, April 15, but rather because he has never faced San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong.

Mets | Jose Valverde still the closer

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 17:01:00 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said RP Jose Valverde remains the team's closer after allowing home runs to three of the last eight batters he's faced. Valverde gave up two home runs with a five-run lead in the ninth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, April 16. His ERA has risen to 6.14.

FANTASY TIP: It's way too soon to start looking for a change at the back end of the Mets' bullpen. Valverde will be prone to the long ball, but he's earned a little more rope to start the season. New York doesn't have a wealth of other options with closing experience, either.

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 16:55:09 -0700

The Seattle Seahawks are re-signing WR Sidney Rice to an undisclosed one-year deal Wednesday, April 16, according to sources.

FANTASY TIP: It's a surprising move, but now that he's been cleared after having surgery, the Seahawks want to take another look at him. Percy Harvin and Doug Baldwin are clearly ahead of Rice on the depth chart. He'll compete for the No. 3 wideout spot that he should win if healthy. Rice is a WR5/6 in this offense.

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 16:29:00 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Kole Calhoun (ankle) is dealing with a serious ligament sprain and will be out four to six weeks, according to manager Mike Scioscia.

FANTASY TIP: It couldn't be a worse time for the Angels, who just lost Josh Hamilton (thumb) for a similar timetable. Collin Cowgill is the main beneficiary in right field, and he should now be owned in all AL leagues. Brennan Boesch could wind up in a platoon with Cowgill, too.

Mariners | Blake Beavan has shoulder tendonitis

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 16:15:03 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Blake Beavan (shoulder) landed on the disabled list with right shoulder tendonitis after he was only able to go four innings against the Texas Rangers. He said he has "dead arm" from a knot in his shoulder. "I just had no life on my ball," he said. "It's just frustrating because I had a great opportunity to help these guys and fill the void of other guys being down. Now I'm in the same situation, but hopefully it's something where in the next 10 days we can get out of there and slide back into the action and help us win some ballgames."

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 16:14:27 -0700
