Phillies | Marlon Byrd could approve deal

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:18:02 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Marlon Byrd had four teams on his no-trade list, the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. He said the Jays and Rays are on his no-trade list because they play their home games on artificial turf. However, he hinted Monday, July 28, he could lean toward approving a trade to the other teams. "Then I have to have a conversation with my wife and with my agents, and see what's best for me, my family, and what's best for this organization, because I can't be that selfish," Byrd said. "I was blessed. (General manager Ruben Amaro Jr.) came hard and wanted me here this year. He made it easy for me this offseason. So I can't be tough on him."

Phillies | Willing to take some of Cole Hamels' salary

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:17:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Philadelphia Phillies are listening to offers for SP Cole Hamels, but the price is astronomical. He has four years left on his contract after this season, at $22.5 million per year. The Phillies have told teams they're willing to take on $10 million of that. Despite that, one American League executive said Monday, July 28, that the asking price is "just not realistic."

Mariners | Might be destination for Marlon Byrd

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:16:38 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Marlon Byrd could be headed to the Seattle Mariners, but they are one of four teams on his no-trade list. However, he indicated he might be willing to waive his no-trade clause, but he could potentially ask for some kind of perk in order to waive his veto rights.

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:14:34 -0700

Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks SS Chris Owings (shoulder) is still at least two to three weeks away from returning to action, as his shoulder injury has not improved enough to allow him to take live batting practice. "Nothing new on him," manager Kirk Gibson said Monday, July 28. "It is what it is. When it's time to move him to the next step, we will. He's picked up his activity a little bit. But he has not taken live BP yet."

Blue Jays | Brett Lawrie might be weeks away

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:13:18 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie (finger) is working out at the team's minor-league facility in Florida. He is hitting off a tee, but is yet to face live pitching. He needs to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before he returns, and that would seem to indicate that he is at least a couple of weeks away from a return. The team has not set a specific timetable.

Blue Jays | Adam Lind closest to returning

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:12:37 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Adam Lind (foot) might return from the 15-day disabled list sometime during the team's upcoming road series against the Houston Astros starting Thursday, July 31. However, it is possible the team waits until Aug. 5 when the team returns home, too. "He's running, he's still a little bit hobbled, but he's able to do a bit of everything," manager John Gibbons said Monday, July 28.

FANTASY TIP: Keep Lind reserved in all fantasy leagues until he is officially activated and able to play one full game without any setbacks. That might not be until early August.

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:10:37 -0700

Buffalo Bills FS Kenny Ladler (hamstring), TE Scott Chandler (groin), TE Tony Moeaki (hamstring) and TE Chris Gragg (cramps) were held out of practice Monday, July 28.

Bills | Anthony Dixon No. 3 back on depth chart

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 19:05:45 -0700

Buffalo Bills RB Anthony Dixon was listed as the No. 3 back on the team's first official depth chart with RB Bryce Brown listed as the No. 4 back.

FANTASY TIP: Brown has received a lot of hype this offseason, but if he remains behind Dixon on the depth chart, he is going to need several injuries to occur before he can make an impact in fantasy circles.

Falcons | Two competing for starting C job

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:54:15 -0700

Atlanta Falcons C Joe Hawley and C Peter Konz have both been taking reps with the first-team this offseason.

Giants | Tests negative for Odell Beckham Jr.

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:46:55 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) had tests on his injured hamstring Monday, July 28, and the results were negative, according to two sources briefed on the injury.

FANTASY TIP: Missing practice time isn't going to help Beckham develop any kind of chemistry with Eli Manning, and while that will hurt his fantasy value to start the year, he has too much explosiveness to be rendered irrelevant all season. He is worth grabbing and stashing later in drafts.

Patriots | Danny Amendola working with Tom Brady's trainer

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:33:17 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola has spent the offseason working with trainer Alex Guerrero. Guerrero is also QB Tom Brady's trainer, and he helped WR Julian Edelman prior to last season.

FANTASY TIP: Amendola has usually produced solid numbers when healthy, especially in PPR formats, but he has battled a variety of injuries throughout his career. He has WR2 potential in PPR formats, but because of his injury history, he should be drafted as a WR3.

Red Sox | Not looking to trade for Matt Kemp

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:16:59 -0700

The Boston Red Sox are not looking to trade for Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp at the moment, a source confirmed Monday, July 28.

FANTASY TIP: It sounds like the team is conflicted on whether they will be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. A recent 1-5 stretch heading into play Monday has the team's odd looking rather long at a postseason spot, although they're not snuffed out yet. It appears the team will need to figure out their direction in the next couple of days before this Kemp rumor (or any others) gains traction.
