Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:59:14 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco (elbow) is expected to return to the team's rotation as soon as Friday, Aug. 15, barring any setbacks.

FANTASY TIP: Nolasco has been a disaster for the team this season, posting a 5-7 record with a 5.90 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP while the opponent is batting .330 against him. Only fantasy owners in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues need to bother with him at this point.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole (lat) was scratched from his minor-league start with Triple-A Indianapolis Friday, Aug. 1. The exact reason for his scratching is not yet known.

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:58:03 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (illness) was out of the lineup for a third straight game Friday, Aug. 1, against the Washington Nationals. However, manager Ryne Sandberg said Brown was under the weather this morning.

FANTASY TIP: There were concerns that Brown climbed into the skipper's growing doghouse, but he simply isn't feeling good. He should be well in the next day or two.

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:19:00 -0700

I just want to take each day one at a time. They have a schedule for me and they're just going to tell me every day what I have to do, and I just go out there and do it," Moreno said.

FANTASY TIP: Moreno was expected to compete for the starting job during camp, but Lamar Miller likely will get the job because of Moreno's injury. Miller should be considered a No. 3 running back in most leagues. Moreno could be a later-round flier or handcuff to Miller in some leagues.

FANTASY TIP: Hudson isn't a bad stash candidate in NL-only fantasy leagues if you have the roster flexibility.

Diamondbacks | Paul Goldschmidt gets rest

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:06:19 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt was given the day off to rest Friday, Aug. 1, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was just his second day of rest this season. He has logged 965 2/3 innings played this season, and that's third-most in the majors. C/1B Jordan Pacheco started in his absence.

FANTASY TIP: It's good news that Goldschmidt has no injury and is just getting a breather. The right-handed slugger should be back in the lineup Saturday, and he'll definitely be in there Sunday. In the series finale he faces Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano, a left-handed starter. Goldy is hitting a robust .384 (28-for-73) with six doubles, three homers, 10 RBI and a 1.115 OPS against southpaws this season. Daily fantasy owners need to remember that when setting their lineups.

Brewers | Matt Garza gets second start this week

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:04:48 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza will start Sunday, Aug. 3, rather than Tuesday, Aug. 5, after SP Jimmy Nelson (blister) was scratched Saturday, Aug. 2.

FANTASY TIP: Garza gets a second start for fantasy owners in the current scoring period after allowing just one run over seven innings in a no-decision earlier in the week on the road against Tampa Bay. The only trade off is that he loses two-start status for the upcoming scoring period.

Brewers | Kyle Lohse to start Saturday

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:04:20 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse will start Saturday, Aug. 2, against the St. Louis Cardinals after SP Jimmy Nelson (blister) was scratched.

The Milwaukee Brewers have scratched SP Jimmy Nelson (finger) from his scheduled start Saturday, Aug. 2, against the St. Louis Cardinals due to a blister. Nelson will be replaced by SP Kyle Lohse.

FANTASY TIP: Nelson's next start is scheduled for Tuesday, but fantasy owners in NL-only leagues and daily formats might want to wait to see how he responds in one full start before plugging him back into the active fantasy lineup.

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 17:03:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett (finger) suffered a left finger injury bunting during batting practice Friday, Aug. 1. X-rays were negative, and he has been diagnosed with a contusion of the left index finger. He is considered day to day.
