Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints FS Jairus Byrd (back) participated in full-contact practice drills for the first time this season Tuesday, Aug. 19. He's expected to play in the third preseason game this weekend.

Updating a previous item, expansion of NFL practice squads from eight to 10 players is expected to be for 2014 and 2015 only. Player agent Mike McCartney clarified that six games now constitute one "year" spent on a practice squad instead of three. The league also clarified that teams may sign two practice squad players who have up to two accrued NFL seasons. Previously, players with at least one accrued season were not eligible for practice squads.

The Chicago Bears and WR Santonio Holmes reached agreement on a minimum salary benefit contract for Holmes that offers no guaranteed money. Holmes signed with the Bears on Saturday, Aug. 16, and the minimum level for a player of his experience is $855,000.

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma allowed just four hits with no walks over eight scoreless innings while posting a season-high 11 strikeouts in a win Tuesday, Aug. 19, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Since July 1, Iwakuma is 7-2 with a 1.63 ERA, 65 strikeouts and four walks in 72 innings over 10 starts.
FANTASY TIP: Iwakuma has emerged as a fantasy must-start in all formats this season. Iwakuma, Felix Hernandez and Chris Young have been the best trio of pitchers in baseball this season.

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury posted a three-hit night against the Houston Astros Tuesday, Aug. 19. He was 10-for-24 in the previous homestand, and he is now hitting .464 over the past eight games at home. Overall, he is hitting .328 at home and just .232 on the road.
FANTASY TIP: Strike while the iron is hot. Ellsbury has been on fire lately, and his production has been exceeding his salary figure in daily fantasy leagues.
