Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:29:54 -0700

Seattle Seahawks LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (stomach) missed practice Tuesday, July 29, with a stomach injury, and LB O'Brien Schofield was given a scheduled day of rest.

Titans | Bishop Sankey earning praise

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:24:56 -0700

Tennessee Titans RB Bishop Sankey earned praise from head coach Ken Whisenhunt for his quick cuts and willingness to lower his shoulder during practice Tuesday, July 29. Whisenhunt also said that Sankey was drafted in part because he is a good fit for the offensive system.

FANTASY TIP: Sankey can do it all out of the backfield, and he should be the team's top back this season. He is worth drafting as a low-end RB2 in standard formats with more value in PPR formats.

Tigers | Eugenio Suarez leaves early

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:13:52 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Eugenio Suarez (back) left the game Tuesday, July 29, against the Chicago White Sox due to lower back tightness. He is considered day to day.

Reds | Logan Ondrusek progressing

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:13:27 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Logan Ondrusek (shoulder) resumed a throwing program Tuesday, July 29. Manager Bryan Price was glad the reliever was ready to throw again after being shut down for several days. "He still had just a bit of soreness (Monday), so that's a good sign," Price said. "There will be a throwing protocol. He's going to have to take some steps as far as effort level, long toss, and bullpen to be able to sign off on reactivation. If we activate him and he's sore in the first outing, we have to put him back on for 15 days."

Reds | Manny Parra nursing back injury

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:10:05 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Manny Parra (back) has been sidelined since July 20 due to a stiff back, manager Bryan Price said Tuesday, July 29. The skipper estimated it would be "maybe three days" until Parra is available again.

Rangers | Yu Darvish accomplishes franchise first

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:08:12 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish picked up his 10th win of the season Monday, July 28, against the New York Yankees. He is the first Rangers pitcher to win at least 10 games in each of his first three seasons in the majors.

FANTASY TIP: Darvish will make his next scheduled start Sunday afternoon in Cleveland. He is 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA in five day starts this season, striking out 43 batters over just 36 1/3 innings while the opponent is hitting just .212 against him during daylight hours. Daily fantasy owners need to remember that and take advantage.

Rangers | Rotation shuffled this weekend

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:07:34 -0700

Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (knee) will not work in the weekend series against the Cleveland Indians, so manager Ron Washington has shuffled his rotation. SP Jerome Williams will work Friday, Aug. 1, SP Miles Mikolas will go Saturday, Aug. 2, and SP Yu Darvish will work Sunday, Aug. 3. The team still does not feel Tepesch's injury warrants a stint on the 15-day disabled list.

FANTASY TIP: Despite the fact Tepesch does not sound destined for the DL, fantasy owners will want to steer clear of him until he is able to return and make a full start without any setbacks or restrictions.

Cowboys | X-rays for DeMarcus Lawrence

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:07:11 -0700

Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence (ankle) is having X-rays on his right ankle and foot Tuesday, July 29, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Rangers | Leonys Martin showing improvement

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:07:09 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin has been showing improvement lately, but manager Ron Washington said more is needed. Washington said Martin is back in the habit of trying to pull everything rather than using the entire field. "He's got to use the whole field, he can't just use one part of the field," Washington said Tuesday, July 29. "If you look at the numbers, most of his hits are two steps to the shortstop side of second base around to (first base). He's got to do something different. You call that adjusting. He's got to make an adjustment."

FANTASY TIP: Martin entered play Tuesday hitless in 16 at-bats, and hitting just .200 over the past 22 games. Until he shows more consistency, he is worth nothing more than a reserve spot in deeper AL-only fantasy play.

Rangers | Neal Cotts could be dealt or extended

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:06:39 -0700

The Texas Rangers are fielding call for RP Neal Cotts, but there is no indication something would get done before the 4pm ET trade deadline Thursday, July 31. The team could trade him, or consider signing him to an extension.

Rangers | Adrian Beltre moving up list

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:06:16 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre posted his 517th career double Monday, July 28, moving into a tie for 48th place on the all-time list with former Major League 3B Scott Rolen.

Pirates | Not optimistic about Starling Marte

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:05:37 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (concussion) might not be ready to come off the 7-day concussion disabled list when eligible Wednesday, July 30, manager Clint Hurdle said.

FANTASY TIP: Marte had his first full workout Tuesday, and the team will see how he feels Wednesday. Fantasy owners in weekly leagues have a few days to see when he returns and how he responds before making a decision on him for next week.

Indians | Carlos Santana successful at plate when at 1B

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:05:07 -0700

Cleveland Indians 1B/3B Carlos Santana has had varying success at the plate depending upon where he is playing on defense. He is hitting .338 with 15 of his 20 home runs when playing first base this season (43 games). When he has played third base, he has hit just .129 in 26 games, and he is 3-for-34 (.088) in 11 games as the catcher. The last time he has appeared anywhere other than first base was May 25.

FANTASY TIP: Daily fantasy owners need to keep all of the information in their memory bank, should the team elect to use him anywhere other than first base. He has been great there, while next to useless at the plate when focusing (or worrying) about his defense at third or behind the plate. It's an interesting statistic seeing how his position affects his hitting, really.

Indians | Michael Bourn to increase workload

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 18:04:37 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Bourn (hamstring) has no set timetable for his return from the 15-day disabled list, although he is expected to increase his rehab workload over the coming week. "I've kind of on purpose not gone in to push him," manager Terry Francona said Tuesday, July 29. "He's going to obviously add intensity as he continues to feel better. He will just continue to ramp up. And when he's ready to play, we'll send him out to play."

FANTASY TIP: It has been a lost season for Bourn, who cannot seem to stay healthy. Fantasy owners need to keep being patient and wait for him to officially come off the DL and play one or two full games without any setbacks before plugging him back into the active lineup.

Cowboys | Rolando McClain dealing with stomach virus

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 17:54:50 -0700

Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain (illness) left practice early Tuesday, July 29, because of a stomach virus.

Vikings | Captain Munnerlyn could return Wednesday

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 17:48:20 -0700

Minnesota Vikings CB Captain Munnerlyn (hamstring) could return Wednesday, July 30, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson practices on limited basis

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 17:43:53 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (foot) ran routes in full pads Monday, July 29, and worked on the side with athletic trainers.

FANTASY TIP: Patterson appears to be working his way back up to speed, and his injury doesn't seem like one that will linger. At full speed, he is a big play waiting to happen, and he is worth drafting as a WR2.

Packers | Bryan Bulaga sharp in pass protection

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 17:31:06 -0700

Green Bay Packers OT Bryan Bulaga (knee) performed well in one-on-one pass-blocking drills Monday, July 28, stopping a rush attempt from LB Clay Matthews and two attempts from LB Julius Peppers.

Lions | Calvin Johnson adjusting approach in practice

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 17:19:19 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is taking part in fewer reps in training camp this year than in years past and said he is trying to be smarter about his approach to practice with the goal of staying healthy the entire season. "I'm older now," Johnson said. "I'm not diving for the balls anymore (in practice). Coach Caldwell has a big emphasis about us staying off the ground. I'm not playing every play in practice but they're working me in. I'm out here trying to get my extra running in after (practice) so I can keep my wind up."

FANTASY TIP: Anything that Johnson can do to avoid the nagging injuries that forced him to miss time down the stretch last season is a good thing for fantasy owners. He should be the first WR off the board in any format.

Astros | George Springer takes BP

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 17:17:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, Houston Astros OF George Springer (quadriceps) took batting practice on the field Tuesday, July 29, for the first time since going on the 15-day disabled list July 20. "It's big to be out here and just to get some swings," Springer said. Barring any setbacks, he is expected to increase his activities over the next two days. He is eligible to come off the DL Monday, Aug. 4.

FANTASY TIP: Springer is eligible to return Monday, but that doesn't necessarily mean he will. Generally, it's a good idea to see your fantasy player return and play at least one full game without any setbacks before activating him. In this case, it might be another full week for fantasy owners to use him unless you like to gamble a bit.
