Padres | Casey Kelly close to rehab assignment

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 15:56:37 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Casey Kelly (elbow) will throw in an extended spring game Monday, April 21, and he could start a rehab assignment in the minors if everything checks out after that.

FANTASY TIP: Kelly could become an option for the Friars' rotation this summer, especially if Josh Johnson (forearm) needs a second Tommy John surgery. Keep tabs on him if you're in an NL-only league, at least.

Mets | Acquire Zack Thornton

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 15:55:47 -0700

The New York Mets acquired P Zack Thornton and a player to be named from the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, April 18, in exchange for 1B Ike Davis.

Mets | Ike Davis traded

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 15:49:47 -0700

The New York Mets agreed to trade 1B Ike Davis to the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, April 18. It's unknown what the Mets will receive in return.

FANTASY TIP: As Terry Collins has said already, Lucas Duda is now clearly the starting first baseman in New York. Josh Satin can mix in against tough lefties, but this is Duda's job all the way now. There's more reason to take a chance on Duda's power in mixed leagues.

Pirates | Acquiring Ike Davis

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 15:27:22 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates are working with the New York Mets to acquire 1B Ike Davis, and Davis has approved the trade.

FANTASY TIP: The Bucs clearly aren't satisfied with Travis Ishikawa in a platoon at first base with Gaby Sanchez. Davis will essentially replace Ishikawa in that role. Davis' value probably won't increase all that much, but his playing time should increase if he's in a straight platoon with Sanchez.

Pirates | Chris Stewart looking good during rehab

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 15:25:46 -0700

Diamondbacks | Cody Ross activated

Fri, 18 Apr 2014 15:15:20 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks activated OF Cody Ross (hip) from the 15-day disabled list Friday, April 18, and designated RP Ryan Rowland-Smith for assignment in a corresponding move.

FANTASY TIP: Maybe this is the spark that the D-Backs need in order to turn around their atrocious start. Ross is likely to be eased back in, but the loser here is A.J. Pollock. Ross can provide some decent power numbers for deep mixed managers, but at this stage of his career, he's more of a platoon player.
