Red Sox | Dustin Pedroia back in lineup

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 13:16:00 -0700

Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (wrist) is back in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 16.

FANTASY TIP: Get Pedroia back in your daily lineups. Keep an eye on how her performs with the bat, though, since John Farrell said Pedroia's injury was affecting him with the lumber.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka dominates

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 13:14:15 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka dominated the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, April 16, going eight innings while giving up just two bunt hits, striking out 10 and walking one. He's now 2-0 with a 2.05 ERA this year.

FANTASY TIP: This is a bit more than we expected out of Tanaka, at least right out of the gates. The strikeouts have been especially nice. Keeping up these kind of numbers will be tougher once teams change their approach, though.

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 13:06:21 -0700

Reds | Johnny Cueto masterful in CG

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 13:03:48 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto tossed his third career shutout against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, April 16, by striking out a career-high 12 hitters and giving up just three hits. He moves to 1-2 on the season.

FANTASY TIP: Cueto's downfall has been his injuries. But when healthy, his ground-ball prowess and dominance are excellent. That's what you saw today with him hitting all of his spots with all of his pitches. A new and improved delivery could help him stay healthy all year, too.

Reds | Aroldis Chapman to throw bullpen

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:59:59 -0700

Cincinnati Reds RP Aroldis Chapman (face) will throw another bullpen session Thursday, April 17.

FANTASY TIP: Chapman is expected to return to the team in a month. Stay patient.

Mets | 1B still a revolving door

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:55:38 -0700

New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda is still considered the starter at first base, but 1B Ike Davis has started there once in each series and got the start Wednesday, April 16. 1B Josh Satin has started three games against lefties. Duda is hitting .364 (8-for-22) with a home run and four RBIs in his last five starts, but manager Terry Collins said Davis received the nod Wednesday because of his history at Chase Field and the fact that he wanted to get Davis a start in his hometown.

FANTASY TIP: This is a situation to stay away from unless you're in an NL-only league. Duda is the guy to own if you must have one of the trio.

Mariners | Logan Morrison to DL

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:54:00 -0700

The Seattle Mariners placed OF Logan Morrison (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 16, and recalled SS Nick Franklin from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Franklin was hitting .395 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 11 games with Tacoma.

FANTASY TIP: The M's haven't gotten much production out of their right spot with Morrison, Michael Saunders and Stefen Romero. Perhaps they give Franklin, who saw some time there this spring, a shot. He's worth picking up in AL leagues because of his power and middle infield eligibility.

The Dallas Cowboys met with free-agent OG Davin Joseph (Buccaneers) earlier this week.

Jets | Sign Chris Johnson

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:29:09 -0700

The New York Jets signed RB Chris Johnson (Titans) to a two-year deal Wednesday, April 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.

FANTASY TIP: Johnson has lost a lot in recent seasons, and he's, at best, a weak RB3 for your fantasy squad. Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will spell Johnson frequently, and Ivory figures to be the short-yardage, goal-line back. With Marty Mornhinweg as the offensive coordinator, Johnson could be used frequently out of the backfield as a pass catcher, making him more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 12:26:57 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) and RP Jason Motte (elbow) are making progress with their throwing programs. Garcia is facing live batters in batting practice this week and is scheduled to pitch in an extended spring game later this week. Motte is further along after throwing roughly 20 pitches in a spring game Monday, April 14, and he make two more appearances this week. The team hasn't set a date for Motte to begin a rehab assignment.
