Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs (shoulder) had his fractured left shoulder evaluated by team doctors Tuesday, Dec. 10, but he was not cleared to play.
"I have to be able to defend myself on the football field," he said. "If I can't do that, then they won't clear me." Briggs wouldn't rule out playing Sunday in Cleveland, but he said his next evaluation will come in "another couple days," which makes his participation seem unlikely. He hopes to return before the end of the year, at least.

Dallas Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne (hamstring) is with family and friends in Shreveport, La., dealing with the death of his father, Robert Owens. Claiborne had been dealing with a hamstring injury but had to curtail some of his rehab work because of the family issue. "He's very close with his family," Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said. "Very close in Louisiana and suddenly his father passed away at a relatively young age. He was not what I wold call an older man. Having said that, it tore his world up so he immediately left to be with his family. We knew he wasn't going to play this week and that's besides the point. He wanted to be with his family and we're giving him all of the time that he needs there or wants." KFFL sends its condolences.

If Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) cannot play this week, it is likely fourth-year veteran RB James Starks will play in Lacy's place. Starks has a career-high three touchdowns this season and is averaging a career-high 5.3 yards per carry but has never played against the Dallas Cowboys.
FANTASY TIP: Considering the Cowboys' defense averages close to 129 rushing yards per game, which is ranked 28th in the National Football League, Starks may be a good bet to pick up off the bench. As a previous post indicated, monitor Lacy's health but if you have a bench spot open pick Starks up as a handcuff.

There have been rumors of Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista being traded this offseason, and the Seattle Mariners are one team that makes sense because they have the arms to get a deal done, and they need power. However, sources have said there have been zero conversations concerning a potential trade between the two clubs.
FANTASY TIP: Well, that rumor has been put to rest, at least for now. Fantasy owners in keeper formats breathe a sigh of relief, as Safeco Field is not exactly a power hitter's paradise.
