Patriots | Danny Amendola working with Tom Brady's trainer

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:33:17 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola has spent the offseason working with trainer Alex Guerrero. Guerrero is also QB Tom Brady's trainer, and he helped WR Julian Edelman prior to last season.

FANTASY TIP: Amendola has usually produced solid numbers when healthy, especially in PPR formats, but he has battled a variety of injuries throughout his career. He has WR2 potential in PPR formats, but because of his injury history, he should be drafted as a WR3.

Red Sox | Not looking to trade for Matt Kemp

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:16:59 -0700

The Boston Red Sox are not looking to trade for Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp at the moment, a source confirmed Monday, July 28.

FANTASY TIP: It sounds like the team is conflicted on whether they will be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. A recent 1-5 stretch heading into play Monday has the team's odd looking rather long at a postseason spot, although they're not snuffed out yet. It appears the team will need to figure out their direction in the next couple of days before this Kemp rumor (or any others) gains traction.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman continues to rest

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:16:08 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) continues to rest his injured right hamstring. Manager Matt Williams said Monday, July 28, that he was uncertain how long Zimmerman will be sidelined after suffering a right hamstring injury last week. He was expected to visit a team doctor Monday. "There is still no activity, so we may have something after the game, certain (Tuesday) when we get here. We'll see what the doctor thinks," Williams said.

FANTASY TIP: With Zimmerman sidelined, Anthony Rendon has slid into an everyday role at the hot corner. That leaves second base wide open, with Danny Espinosa, Kevin Frandsen and Zach Walters competing for playing time at that position.

Nationals | Second base job up for grabs

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:15:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals will use 2B Danny Espinsoa, 2B Kevin Frandsen and SS Zach Walters at second base while 2B/3B Anthony Rendon serves as the everyday third baseman with 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) sidelined. Manager Matt Williams said he will not just hand the job over to anyone in particular, and that he has decided the three players will battle it out.

FANTASY TIP: Daily fantasy owners will keep a close eye on the lineups an hour or two before game time. You can get good bargains in salary-cap formats, particularly if Frandsen or Walters are given the nod. They have generally had salary cap figures in the lower tier.

Giants | Andrew Susac likely to start Wednesday

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:14:41 -0700

San Francisco Giants C Andrew Susac is likely to make his first major league start Wednesday, July 30, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

FANTASY TIP: Susac could be a nice bargain basement alternative for fantasy owners in daily salary-cap formats. He has a little pop, and was a Triple-A All-Star for Fresno.

Giants | Brandon Belt feeling better

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:12:18 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt (concussion) will have another evaluation Monday, July 28. If all goes well, he will be cleared to resume baseball activities, and he might re-join the team on its upcoming road trip. Belt said Monday that he is feeling better.

FANTASY TIP: Fantasy owners will get a clearer picture on when Belt will return in the next day or two, but keep him reserved until he is officially activated and able to prove his health in one or two full games without any setbacks.

Giants | Hector Sanchez still nauseous

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:11:48 -0700

San Francisco Giants C Hector Sanchez (concussion) said Monday, July 28, that he is nauseous, and still feeling the effects of his concussion. The team said he is still three to four days away from resuming activities.

Giants | Angel Pagan nearing rehab assignment

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:11:06 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (back) is scheduled to go through a full workout Tuesday, July 29. Pagan will likely receive a minor-league rehab assignment date as long as he has no setbacks.

Astros | Trying to get L.J. Hoes to drive ball

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:10:33 -0700

Houston Astros OF L.J. Hoes worked with hitting coach John Mallee in the batting cage on the field Monday, July 28, as the hitting coach is trying to get Hoes to stay behind the ball and drive it more. "(He) gets a little to his front side and his posture, his head is more forward as opposed to the center of his body or a little behind," Mallee said. "Trying to get him to lead out with his hip, and that allows him to be direct (to) the ball and also get the barrel under his hands at contact and get left to the ball."

Astros | Jon Singleton works to shorten swing

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:08:20 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton worked closely with hitting coach John Mallee Monday, July 28, in the batting cages. Mallee said the results were "absolutely amazing" and said now it's a matter of Singleton trusting it enough to use in games. "I'm trying to get the big-muscle-bodyness out of his swing and trying to get him more direct to the ball, shorten his path," Mallee said. "He's been overswinging and hitting long. We came out and did some tee work on the field and some flips and some high-velocity sport pitch to where the ball is on him almost at the same reaction time as it is in the game."

FANTASY TIP: Singleton has plenty of power, but he has posted a poor .178 average in 163 at-bats since his recall. He is a promising talent, and a must-have in long-term keeper fantasy formats, but right now he is not helping anyone in re-draft leagues.

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 17:47:19 -0700

Baltimore Ravens WR Michael Campanaro has been adjusting to press coverage and has been making more plays as training camp has progressed. "Michael has great feet," Ravens wide receivers coach Bobby Engram said. "He has a lot of quickness. He understands how to separate. He's a smaller guy, but he's strong. He knows how to leverage himself to create separation, and that's what you really look for from a slot receiver."

Raiders | James Jones showing his physicality

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 17:24:19 -0700

Oakland Raiders WR James Jones has shown a knack for catching balls in heavy traffic during full team sessions, according to Jerry Mcdonald of The Oakland Tribune.

FANTASY TIP: Jones is expected to be one of the team's starting receivers this year, and if he continues to make plays in traffic, he could carve out a role as a go-to option in the red zone. The question marks surrounding the QB situation in Oakland hurt his value, but he is worth drafting in the later rounds as a bench option at the WR spot.

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders compares QBs

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 17:11:56 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders said QB Peyton Manning is a "better leader" than Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. "This is the first time that I had a quarterback that stays every single day after practice, no matter what his accolades," Sanders said. "From NFL MVP, Super Bowl rings. He keeps guys like me and (Cody) Latimer after practice and we're out there 15, 20 minutes. And he's not one of those guys you gotta go chase down, he's gonna be right at the same spot ready to work, every single day."

FANTASY TIP: Sanders is set to be the No. 3 receiver for the Broncos this season, and the extra work he is putting in with Manning should help him hit the ground running when the season begins. He is worth drafting in the middle rounds as a WR3 in fantasy leagues.
