Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli (back) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 20, because of back spasms.
FANTASY TIP: Napoli will probably be considered day-to-day at this point. Owners should take him out of the lineup until he is healthy enough to return.

Cleveland Indians 1B Nick Swisher (knees) underwent arthroscopic surgery on both of his knees Wednesday, Aug. 20. He is expected to be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a light bullpen session Thursday, Aug. 21, and expects to start in one of the two games Saturday, Aug. 23.
FANTASY TIP: Verlander is coming off a shoulder injury, so it is not known how he will pitch when he rejoins the starting rotation. Owners could consider keeping him out of their lineups until they see him pitch again.

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) threw 35 pitches during a bullpen session Wednesday, Aug. 20, and indicated everything feels fine. He threw fastballs, curveballs, changeups and splitters during the session. His next step is expected to be live batting practice then a simulated game.
FANTASY TIP: Tanaka appears to be making good progress in his rehab and could pitch again this season. Owners should continue to hold onto him in case he is able to make a few starts before the end of the season.

The New York Yankees have scratched OF Carlos Beltran (elbow) from the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 20, because Beltran felt something in his elbow while taking a swing Tuesday, Aug. 19. Manager Joe Girardi said he hopes Beltran will only be out a day or two.
FANTASY TIP: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see if Beltran will need to go on the disabled list because of the injury. Beltran should be kept on the bench until there is a better timetable for his return.
