Redskins | Robert Griffin III praises Alfred Morris

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 11:07:41 -0700

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III thinks RB Alfred Morris is the biggest weapon on the team's offense. "I think everyone would lean towards DeSean or Pierre or Jordan Reed," Griffin III said when asked who the biggest weapon in the Redskins' offense is. "I think it's Alfred. With him, defenses have to make a decision whether to puts guys in the box to stop him or leave the box light and allow Alfred to go between the tackles and lure in the safeties. I think it will be interesting to see what defenses do against him."

FANTASY TIP: There is every reason to believe that Morris will benefit from the addition of DeSean Jackson to the offense and a healthy Robert Griffin III. Morris should return to top form in 2014.

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 11:05:21 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere (ankle) is dealing with a sore right ankle and is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 10. It's the same ankle that he had problems with last year, and the two screws in his ankle is what is causing the soreness.

FANTASY TIP: Take Revere out of your daily lineups. It's a bit worrisome that his surgically repaired ankle is giving him fits again. Revere could take a few days off as the All-Star break approaches.

Diamondbacks | Addison Reed believes problems are mechanical

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 10:25:55 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed, who has just two saves in his last five chances, believes he is mechanically out of whack right now. Reed is 20-for-25 on the season and has allowed nine home runs. Reed naturally throws across his body, and he gets into trouble when his weight drifts to the side instead of moving forward towards the plate in his delivery. He is working hard to correct the problem. The D-backs believe Reed can fix his mechanics, and manager Kirk Gibson isn't even considering giving the job to RP Brad Ziegler.

"Sometimes I just get fastball happy and think I can get by with some well-located fastballs," Reed said. "The thing with me is, I've been getting hurt a lot of times leaving the ball up and over the middle of the plate instead of hitting the corners. Obviously I need to start throwing more sliders and start mixing it up a little more, and when I throw the fastball I need to locate where I am supposed to." Reed's fastball is averaging 92.5 mph this year, which is about where he sat last year after being in the 94.5 mph range his first two seasons with the Chicago White Sox. Reed thinks improving his mechanics will lead to fewer homers allowed, too.

FANTASY TIP: Saves speculators should still take a chance on Ziegler just in case Reed continues to struggle. Eventually, if Reed can't turn things around, Gibson will likely be forced to make a move in the ninth.

Athletics | Coco Crisp sitting

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 10:25:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is out of the lineup Thursday, July 10.

Lions | Team to get creative with defensive line

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 10:24:28 -0700

Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh said the team is going to have fun with how the defense is used in 2014. Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin plans to get creative with how he uses the defensive line. "We're going to have a lot of fun going against offenses and our defensive line play is going to be very similar but at the same time very different," Suh said. "That will be for those offensive lines to figure out; not going to give any secrets away right now but we're going to have some fun out there."

Texans | Andre Johnson moving on?

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 10:18:47 -0700

Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson is now working out "not thinking of the Texans," according to a source. Four teams are expressing interest in trading for Johnson before the season.

FANTASY TIP: The longer we go into the offseason, the more we get the feeling that Johnson has no interest in returning to Houston. However, the Texans must be on board with letting Johnson have his wish in a trade. Stay tuned.

Colts | Dwayne Allen will help offense be more creative

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 10:17:27 -0700

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen's return will allow the offense be more creative this upcoming season, according to tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts. "It makes us a better football team," Roberts said. "Getting him back is like getting a brand new player. (Allen) gives you a chance to do some other things. His skillset allows us to protect it up, or throw it or run it when we see the advantage. He gives us an advantage because he can do some things in the backfield, do some things in-line where [TE Coby Fleener] we feel like has blossomed as an outside guy. It gives you a little more of a chance to be creative."

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 10:16:26 -0700
