Giants | Will Beatty expects to be on the practice field

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:24:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants OT William Beatty (leg) said he is not fully sure what the limited designation means, but he plans on being on the practice field in some capacity.

Giants | Victor Cruz getting comfortable with new offense

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:23:13 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz said he is at an eight out of 10 in comfort with the new offense.

FANTASY TIP: Cruz still has plenty of time to get completely up to speed with the team's new offense. Regular practice time and preseason games should help everyone on the offensive side of the ball feel more comfortable with the new offense.

Giants | Will Beatty on schedule to play in preseason

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:22:46 -0700

New York Giants OT William Beatty (leg) said he is on schedule to play at some point during the preseason.

Giants | Odell Beckham Jr. receiving preventative treatment on hamstring

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:08:19 -0700

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) said he is only receiving preventative treatment on his hamstring at this point.

FANTASY TIP: It appears the hamstring issue that slowed Beckham Jr. down in the offseason is now completely behind him and he will be a full go for training camp.

Chiefs | Eric Fisher fully practices

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:07:44 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs OT Eric Fisher (shoulder) fully participated in rookie practice Tuesday, July 22.

Cubs | Kyuji Fujikawa pitches rehab game

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:58:55 -0700

Chicago Cubs RP Kyuji Fujikawa (elbow) appeared in his first rehab game for Triple-A Iowa, allowing one run on two hits in an inning Monday, July 21.

FANTASY TIP: He's one to watch for the Cubs' 2015 closer picture if they pick up his option. If they buy him out, he could enter another saves situation.

Browns | Josh Gordon won't be cut

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:52:04 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon won't be cut despite his looming suspension hearing and appeal, according to head coach Mike Pettine.

FANTASY TIP: They're willing to stick out whatever the discipline winds up being, at least for now. This could change as an actual suspension is handed down and enforced, so keep tabs. It doesn't look as if Gordon will be anything more than a middle- and late-rounds flyer for fantasy purposes.

Rays | Joel Peralta to hit DL

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:43:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Joel Peralta (illness) is expected to be placed on the disabled list. RP Jeff Beliveau is the likely replacement as a call-up from Triple-A Durham.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker struggling

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:39:50 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker is throwing 91 to 93 mph instead of his typical 93 to 98 mph. A scout said Walker is "far from dominant. Still not in top form. His value has to have diminished some."

FANTASY TIP: This may be a case where Walker will be more valuable to MLB and fantasy baseball clubs in 2015 than in 2014 as he continues to regain optimal form following his shoulder impingement. He's losing momentum on the trade market.

Browns | Charles Johnson intriguing

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:22:15 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Charles X. Johnson is expected to get a chance to rise up the depth chart and challenge the older Miles Austin and Nate Burleson for snaps.

FANTASY TIP: The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, who has battled knee injuries, was called "intriguing" by Tom Reed and is someone to watch during the year.

Browns | Josh Gordon hearing soon?

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:11:09 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon's hearing on a possible suspension is expected to take place in the next 10 days, possibly two weeks, according to head coach Mike Pettine. They're also preparing for an appeal not long after.

FANTASY TIP: The waiting game continues. Hopefully, your draft doesn't take place until closer to the start of Week 1 so you'll have a sound idea of whether he's still worth a bench selection.

Browns | Starting QB will be named in preseason

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:06:12 -0700

Cleveland Browns QBs Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer will know who is starting before the third preseason game, according to head coach Mike Pettine, though it could happen sooner. Pettine has expressed hesitation to name Manziel the starter immediately and thinks Hoyer's chances are underrated.

FANTASY TIP: It depends heavily on how Hoyer responds during his knee recovery. This could be a battle to watch during the season. Manziel is nothing more than a low-end QB2 and ideally ranks as a third slinger for 2014 fantasy football drafts. Hoyer could be a sneaky QB3 in such leagues that require that depth.

Browns | Johnny Manziel chatted with Mike Pettine

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 08:05:22 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel talked with head coach Mike Pettine, who expressed concerns about Manziel's off-field behavior. Pettine said it was a "positive conversation" and that he doesn't feel as if Manziel's purported party activities will be a problem once the NFL season starts.

FANTASY TIP: Hopefully, the Manziel news starts to trend toward the quarterback battle he'll have with Brian Hoyer.

Cowboys | Demarcus Lawrence expected to start

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 07:59:02 -0700

Dallas Cowboys DE Demarcus Lawrence is likely to win the starting job at right defensive end, according to Bryan Broaddus.

FANTASY TIP: Lawrence's upside was up for debate among NFL Draft scouts, and he'll have a tall task to replace DeMarcus Ware. But Lawrence is someone to watch during the season in sack-leaning IDP formats.

Bills | Marcell Dareus entering treatment

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 07:53:13 -0700

Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus has agreed to enter an NFL substance abuse program as he works to have felony drug charges dismissed, according to Rod Giddens, Dareus' attorney. Dareus was given permission to enter the program at a hearing in Calhoun County Court in Alabama Monday, July 21. Charges levied on May 5 of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia will be dismissed and perhaps expunged should he complete the required activities. The NFL could still discipline Dareus, however.

FANTASY TIP: The last sentence puts a damper on this news, which could negatively affect the Bills' defensive line, considered its strength on defense. In fantasy, they're a fringe starting DT with even more risk during any potential Dareus absence.

Saints | Je'Ron Hamm stood out

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 07:43:17 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Je'Ron Hamm stood out the most of the backup tight ends and fullbacks during organized team activities and minicamps because of his athletic ability and receiving skills.

Bills | Seantrel Henderson shaken up

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 07:39:25 -0700

Buffalo Bills OT Seantrel Henderson (undisclosed) was walking off the field slowly with trainers Tuesday, July 22. He left practice Sunday, July 20, due to a hip injury, but it's not known if that is what ails him today.

Bills | Backup QBs alternating

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 07:32:37 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Jeff Tuel and Thaddeus Lewis are alternating series with the second unit in team drills Tuesday, July 22.

Bengals | George Iloka has firm grip on job

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 07:24:31 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals FS George Iloka has a firm grip on the starting free safety job, but he could use some improved tackling skills.

Angels | Garrett Richards won't be shut down

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 06:55:15 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards won't be shut down after a specific innings limit. "Not at all," Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said Monday. "Garrett has thrown from end to end in a season. His innings have not escalated to the point where they're 200-plus, but Garrett throws the ball as easily as anybody you'll ever see. It's not a violent delivery, it's not a violent package. He maintains velocity pretty easily."

FANTASY TIP: This is good news for his owners as he remains a valuable starter for the rest of the season, but beware that he may tire physically along with experiencing a somewhat negative statistical correction.
