A source indicates Major League Baseball decided the specific proposal for an Oakland Athletics stadium in San Jose was insufficient, saying it merely required more information. MLB has not denied the A's request to move outright, but hasn't approved anything, either, placing things in a holding pattern of sorts.

Former MLB OF Wily Mo Pena has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, an industry source told sportsnet.ca. The 31-year-old free agent drew interest from both sides of the Pacific before agreeing to terms on the deal, which is valued at $1.5 million.

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said he would not be surprised if offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is a candidate for some head coaching positions this offseason. "When you have good coaches on your staff and you do good things, there's going to be opportunities for people. That's something you explore, getting in the business. It's all part of it. But he's an outstanding coach. We're lucky to have him. It wouldn't surprise me at all," McCoy said.
