Ravens | Torrey Smith a one-trick pony?
One anonymous general manager said that Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith is "a bit of a one-trick pony (as a downfield threat)." Of the 130 passes that were thrown to Smith last year, 26 percent went over 20 yards in the air, and he led all NFL players in the most targets and routes run on passes that traveled over 20 yards. In 2013, he had only 39 catches on throws that went 10 yards or less, which ranked him 71st among receivers in the league. WR Steve Smith's presence in the offense could limit opposing defenses from bracketing their coverages on Smith all game long. Also, offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is known for not taking too many downfield shots.
Fantasy Tip: Smith had a career year in 2013, but his dependence on the deep ball is definitely concerning, especially for fantasy owners in PPR leagues. Smith remains a much better play in standard-scoring formats, and Steve Smith shouldn't have an adverse effect on his value.
