Royals | Being conservative with Alcides Escobar
Kansas City Royals SS Alcides Escobar (shoulder) is still improving from a sore right shoulder, and he's hoping he'll be ready for the season opener March 31. "He threw up to 105 feet and did real well today," manager Ned Yost said Monday, March 17. "After the off day, Wednesday we'll run him through a whole assortment of infield drills with throwing. If he feels good then we'll probably play him in a minor league game on Thursday, a minor league game on Friday. And if he passes both of those tests he'll start playing in a major league game on Saturday." Escobar has played in only three spring games because of the injury.
Fantasy Tip: A poor hit rate crippled Escobar's batting average and stolen-base opportunities last year. His average should rebound a bit, but other than his thefts, Escobar won't help you much. He's strictly AL-only material unless you're in an extremely deep mixed league.
