Mariners | Not counting on Jesus Montero

The Seattle Mariners are no longer counting on C Jesus Montero (hand) to be a part of their future. "If he (makes the team), great," general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "Great for Jesus Montero, great for this organization. But at this time, if you are bringing him in here and counting on him, I think that's a little too risky at this point. I think you'd be foolish to say you were counting on this guy." Montero hit just .208 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 2013 before being sent to the minors after 29 games. He recently suffered a hand injury in a car accident that forced him to shut it down in the Venezuelan Winter League. Scouts also said his size hurt his ability to be a good defensive catcher, and more reports suggested that he was lazy and a diva.
