Tigers | Jhonny Peralta heading to instructional league

Detroit Tigers SS Jhonny Peralta will move to the instructional league Wednesday, Sept. 18, and he's eligible to return from his 50-game suspension Sept. 27. If Peralta returns, though, general manager Dave Dombrowski said he won't be the starting shortstop. Peralta will work out in the outfield in the instructional league, and he could help the team in the playoffs. "I don't know if you want to call it a long shot, a 50-50, I have no idea," manager Jim Leyland said. "Dave will make a decision at some point. He'll go down there, and we'll be getting reports from down there, from the guys that are down there, on how he looks. How he looks in left field, how he's swinging the bat." Peralta has never played the outfield in his career.
