Twins | Mike Pelfrey throwing harder
Minnesota Twins SP Mike Pelfrey is showing increased velocity on his fastball as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. Two of his pitches were clocked at 96 mph last weekend, and he hit 95 several times. "I've thrown harder," the 29-year-old right-hander said. "Last year, my last outing in spring training I touched 97. And my last outing before I got hurt, I was hitting 95 in the eighth inning. My velocity's getting there. I think the biggest question for me now is, how come some days I feel good, my arm feels live, and sometimes it just feels dead. That didn't happen before." He's allowed only two runs in his last 12 innings and has struck out 10 hitters.
Fantasy Tip: Pelfrey is gradually returning to the power pitcher he once was before reconstructive elbow surgery. The last few weeks of the season might be an opportunity to get some of that out of him in deep mixed leagues.
