Red Sox | Xander Bogaerts making debut
Boston Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts will make his major league debut at shortstop Tuesday, Aug. 20, allowing SS Stephen Drew to take the day off. "We're looking forward to the Bogaerts era getting underway," manager John Farrell said. Farrell said he'll use Bogaerts to give other players a day off down the stretch. "Xander has over 500 plate appearances already in Triple-A," Farrell said. "So it's not like he comes to us and there's a mandate that says he's got to continue to get everyday at-bats." There will not be a platoon situation at shortstop between Bogaerts and Drew. Drew is hitting only .193 in 114 at-bats against left-handed pitchers this year, and Bogaerts hit .298 with a .926 OPS against lefties at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts will play, but not every day. Owning him in deep mixed leagues is worth it, but it may be frustrating to own him in shallow leagues this year. Next year will be a different story, as he should be the team's starting shortstop.
