Jets | Geno Smith thinks he has a shot

New York Jets QB Geno Smith thinks he has "a great shot" to win the quarterback competition between himself and QB Mark Sanchez in training camp. Smith recently turned down an invitation this offseason to participate in Sanchez's annual passing camp, but Smith said the relationship between the two isn't strained.

Smith has struggled with the team's West Coast system this offseason, which is a significant change from the offense that he ran while at West Virginia. "He came from a system that primarily was a shotgun system," head coach Rex Ryan said. "His steps, drop backs (and) his mechanics that way, footwork-wise, weren't dialed in the way they'll have to be at this level. It's all new to him." Ryan indicated he might use a two-QB system if Smith doesn't win the job, using him in a small package of read-option plays, similar to how the San Francisco 49ers utilized Colin Kaepernick before he won the starting job.

Fantasy Tip: Smith should not be expected to win the starting job out of training camp, but anything could happen, especially with Sanchez the incumbent. Either way, we don't see Smith carrying much fantasy value this season.
