Cardinals | Matt Holliday takes BP, return uncertain
St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (hamstring) took batting practice on Thursday, July 18, for the first time since he suffered a right hamstring on Thursday, July 11. He stayed in St. Louis during the All-Star break to receive treatment. He's also tested it with some light running, but he must prove that he can run at full speed before he'll rejoin the lineup. "We'll see," was his response to a question about whether he'd be in the lineup for the club's game on Friday, July 19, against the San Diego Padres. Still, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch surmises that Holliday's improvement thus far suggests that he'll be able to avoid the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: It does seem like he'll be able to avoid the DL, but if he's not running at full speed yet, he's certainly not far from missing close to two weeks, regardless. The Cards are probably content to play shorthanded for a bit, although something else could also force them to make a move. Hopefully, Holliday doesn't do anything to aggravate the injury just because he wants to prove that he can return soon. The strain he suffered looked kind of bad when it occurred.
