Mets | Wilmer Flores banged up, shifting to first?
New York Mets INF Wilmer Flores (ankle) will not play in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 17, because of an ankle injury he sustained on Saturday, July 13. For the club's affiliate, Las Vegas, at that level, he has made four of his past seven starts at first base, not second. Some have criticized his range and recovery at second, but others believe he has worked diligently and has improved somewhat. Mets manager Terry Collins said he wasn't aware of an organizational directive to push Flores to first, but the skipper added that it was sensible because 2B Daniel Murphy is unlikely to be dislodged.
Fantasy Tip: Flores has compiled a .321/.357/.528 slash line this year, his first at the Class AAA level. Those numbers are a bit inflated because of the generous hitting environments Flores sees every game, and his bat would certainly play much better -- in real life and fantasy -- if he were to remain a middle infielder.
