Astros | Jarred Cosart has impressive debut
Houston Astros SP Jarred Cosart took a no-hitter into seventh inning Friday, July 12, against the Tampa Bay Rays. If that isn't impressive enough, it was his major league debut. He ended up allowing just two hits and no runs through eight-plus innings to pick up the win. He struck out four batters on 96 pitches, throwing 55 for strikes. After the game, he was still optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Fantasy Tip: Cosart was fabulous, and his fantasy ownership is sure to jump even though he was demoted. Those in AL-only leagues who need pitching help will want him on their roster, as he'll be back sooner rather than later. And if you're in a long-term keeper format, believe manager Bo Porter when he says Cosart has the stuff to be an elite pitcher. Cosart showed his impressive high-90's fastball with a big, looping curve to keep the Rays off balance.
