Blue Jays | Chien-Ming Wang working on slider
Toronto Blue Jays SP Chien-Ming Wang, who is 1-0 with a 2.18 ERA in three starts heading into his matchup against the Boston Red Sox Thursday, June 27, has been working on a slider in between starts recently. "It's not like we're making stuff up out there, I've heard the term junk-baller and I think it's the furthest thing from the truth. His breaking ball has good spin, and he can change speeds with his split and his changeup. It's just him evolving into a different pitcher as he gets older," pitching coach Pete Walker said.
Fantasy Tip: Wang's career has been defined by injury, but now that he's finally healthy, he's making an impact at the big league level once again. He relies more on keeping hitters off balance than a devastating sinking fastball now, though. Injuries to Toronto's rotation gave him the shot, and once Brandon Morrow (forearm) returns, Wang will likely be bumped from the rotation.
