Mets | Jonathon Niese to be examined
New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (shoulder) will be examined in New York Friday, June 21, after leaving his start with shoulder pain Thursday, June 20. Niese was fighting shoulder tendonitis for weeks prior, but he managed to avoid the disabled list. Niese said an initial MRI exam didn't show anything alarming. "It's never good when you have to leave a game. But on a good note, the doctor did some tests and everything was negative. It just felt really weak. I think the tendinitis kind of flared up again," Niese said. RP Greg Burke is expected to be called up from the minors to help out the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: All indications are that Niese will land on the disabled list this time around. He indicated several weeks ago that a lowered arm slot may have been the cause of his shoulder ailment, too, so that's worth monitoring. This'll likely solve the team's dilemma of going back to a five-man rotation with Zack Wheeler now in the picture.
