Red Sox | Jon Lester looking to get back to basics
Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester is dealing with poor mechanics that have been apparent in his last five starts, during which he has an 0-3 record and a 6.90 ERA. He met with manager John Farrell and pitching coach Juan Nieves on Wednesday, June 12. The manager cited Lester's lack of command of his four-pitch mix, particularly his four-seam fastball, as a source of his struggles.
Farrell acknowledged that Lester could use some extra time to work on the flaws in his delivery, but he may not have that luxury. It seems likely that Boston will have to push SP Clay Buchholz (neck) back from Sunday, June 16, to Tuesday, June 18, meaning that Lester would start on Sunday, on regular rest.
Fantasy Tip: It's a good sign that Lester is working on the issues that have hurt him recently, but he won't get much experimentation time. Fantasy owners may want to sit him against a good Baltimore Orioles offense, although it's tough to do.
