Mariners | Mike Zunino on his way up
Seattle Mariners C Mike Zunino has received a call-up to the parent club, according to a person familiar with the team's activities.
Fantasy Tip: This is only a little surprising, but the demotion of Jesus Montero not long ago increased this possibility, and the somewhat disappointing start that the M's have had already prompted them to shake things up in other areas. Zunino is hitting only .238 for Triple-A Tacoma, but he has 11 home runs and a .503 slugging percentage. The move could be temporary given the club's roster makeup at the moment, but Kelly Shoppach has provided little offense since the season's first month or so and isn't everyday material, so Seattle is likely giving Zunino a chance to take the reins. He should be picked up in all two-catcher leagues, but remember that catchers usually have the toughest time transitioning to the majors because of their defensive responsibilities.
