Mets | Ike Davis optioned to Triple-A
The New York Mets optioned 1B Ike Davis to Triple-A Las Vegas Sunday, June 9. Davis is hitting just .161 (30-for-186) with 66 strikeouts this season, and manager Terry Collins elected to pinch hit for him Sunday for a second straight game. "At some point you just have to say to yourself this is not in his best interest," general manager Sandy Alderson said. "I was one of his biggest supporters. I just felt at some point we've got to get him out of here. Hopefully he'll be back in a short period of time. But he needs to go there. He needs to be able to play every day. He needs to be able to work on his swing without worrying necessarily about the outcome. We think it's in his best interest."
Fantasy Tip: If you were hanging onto Davis and hoping for the best, it is definitely time to cut bait now. He could be back at some point if he does well in the Pacific Coast League, but be very careful. Stats in the PCL can be inflated, and the real test if and when he returns will be hitting with consistency in the majors. Then, and only then, will he be worth adding back to a fantasy roster. Josh Satin is worth adding if you need an emergency NL-only fantasy replacement.
