Pirates | James McDonald, Charlie Morton nearing returns
Pittsburgh Pirates SP James McDonald (shoulder) is scheduled to throw five innings or 80 pitches in his next rehab outing for Triple-A Indianapolis Thursday, June 6, and it'll be his third rehab start since going on the disabled list May 7. SP Charlie Morton (elbow) will throw a side session Wednesday, June 5, and make his fourth start for Indianapolis Saturday, June 8, where the team hopes he can throw 95 pitches. Morton is returning from Tommy John surgery, and the club won't rush him back into the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: McDonald is probably the more realistic option to jump back into the rotation first to take Jeanmar Gomez's (forearm) spot. McDonald continues to be wildly inconsistent, however, making it tough to rely on him for anything more than a spot start in mixed leagues.
