Mets | Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada playing to stick around
New York Mets 1B Ike Davis and SS Ruben Tejada met with the coaching staff before the game Wednesday, May 29, and were informed that they were both on the verge of being demoted to the minors. "There are guys who play very well when they're comfortable, and then maybe there's those guys who play a little more aggressively when they're standing on the edge. We'll find out," manager Terry Collins said. Davis entered the day hitting only .152 with four homers and 11 RBIs, and Tejada was hitting .209 with no homers and 10 RBIs. Tejada has also committed eight errors at shortstop, which is the most in the league at that position.
Fantasy Tip: Davis and Tejada obviously haven't played well enough to deserve roster spots in mixed leagues. Davis remains intriguing, though, because of the way he bucked his slow start last year to finish with 32 home runs. Collins' talk with both players may already be paying off, though; both hitters singled in the first inning Wednesday. We'll need to see more to advise picking up either player, however.
