Red Sox | Joel Hanrahan fears the worst
Boston Red Sox RP Joel Hanrahan (forearm) is dealing with a badly bruised and discolored right elbow, and he is now fearing that he might have a more serious injury than originally believed. The concern is that the flexor pronator strain in his forearm could also involved damage to his ulnar collateral ligament, which would require Tommy John surgery in a worst-case scenario. Hanrahan's initial MRI exam showed no structural damage.
Fantasy Tip: Hanrahan had a flexor pronator injury back with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010 but was rested and came out of that fine. This situation appears to be much worse, but we won't know exactly what his prognosis is until this weekend. Worst-case sceneario is that Hanrahan will miss the entire year and some of next season. Even if surgery isn't needed, though, he's likely to miss extended time. It's safe to drop him in deep mixed leagues at this point.
