Patriots | Rob Gronkowski will need another surgery
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (forearm) will need a fourth surgery on his forearm to change the plate that is securing the forearm. It is still not known if the infection in his forearm has cleared, which is delaying the surgery to replace the plate. Gronkowski probably would need a fifth surgery if the infection has not cleared, and his status for the start of the regular season would be uncertain.
Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski's status for Week 1 is still up in the air and it likely will be a few more weeks before it is known if he will need one or two more surgeries. Gronkowski is a definite No. 1 tight end when healthy but this situation will affect his value if he needs two surgeries. Owners should look for a strong tight end as their No. 2 tight end if they select Gronkowski. Aaron Hernandez is currently recovering from shoulder surgery, which has put his status for Week 1 in question. If both tight ends are not ready, Jake Ballard likely would take a bigger role in the passing game.
