Red Sox | Joel Hanrahan activated, Andrew Bailey to stay in ninth

The Boston Red Sox activated RP Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 30. Head coach John Farrell indicated that RP Andrew Bailey will likely remain as the team's closer, however. "He's active today," Farrell said. "Before announcing what his role is, when he comes to the ballpark we'll have a chance to sit down. ... The one thing Joel is, he's honest with himself, and he understands what's going on here."

Fantasy Tip: The writing had sort of been on the wall for Hanrahan shortly before the team placed him on the disabled list. He just wasn't throwing enough strikes to continue being efficient in the ninth inning, and the team had relayed that to him. Whether he'll get another chance to reclaim the job is unknown, but it's presumed that as long as Bailey gets the job done, Hanrahan will stick in a setup role.
